Re: Bismarck vs. South Dakota @ 1942

If Lindeman had played his cards right with the Bismarck he could have won, but in a more capabilities based scenario: SD's has better armament- 9-16in vs 8-15in SD's has better armor- Her armor was generally about two inches thicker that Bismarck's SD's has better Radar- SD's 3in wavelength 50 kilo...

Re: RMS Titanic´s anniversary

Says on Wikipedia and one of Ballard's books that Titanic had an exeptionally small rudder for a ship of it's size.

Re: Bismarck vs. South Dakota @ 1942

 Yes, but still... Bismarck's range was good compared to most British battleships, but was not up to the task of patroling the vast reaches of the Pacific along with the Japanese and American BBs

Re: Bismarck vs. Hood

So we can agree here, Germany had the best stuff in the beginning of the war, Britain caught up in the middle, and in the last few years America overshadowed the lot of them at industrial strength and tech.

Re: Hood's Last Trick

:ok: Whales make sense, but so does the Hood in her death throes, so it probably was one of those two. But then the torpedoes trails, well... "OMG!!! A straight line, it's a torpedo!!! Sound the alarm..."

Re: Ideal Rheinubung

:stubborn: I know, but I just realized Hipper was in Brest at the time and Lutzow was too slow. Any other possible 30kn raiders at the time?

 I have been woundering about the effictiveness of the Prinz Eugen's hydrophones. Also, what the heck is the difference between a hydrophone and a passive sonar array

Re: Ideal Rheinubung

1. Terje, OK, scratch Lutzow. Any other 30kn raiders in Germany at the time? Hipper was in Brest at the time, right? That is exactly why I have been trying to get Graf Zepplin (and maybe Peter Strasser) into the Atlantic along with the other raiders  2. Tom, I am assuming that i...

Re: Bismarck vs. Hood

I always wonder about the "general" perception that: 1. If Bismarck score a huge victory against Hood it was just an "accident", something as fortitous as an asteroid striking Earth. The RN recognized that an unmodernized Hood was not a equal match with Bismarck, and that Hood's...

Re:

 Fine, no carriers. The Kriegsmarine was never destined to have an operable and organized carrier(s) due to the tension between the Kriegsmarine and the Luftwaffe  But yes, I think a U-Boat trap is a very good idea if the ships wanted to do the most damage to the Royal Navy with the le...

Re: BS speed - last battle

 I see the point of view on both sides here...

1. Bismarck could very well have been towed but tugs alone: :ok:

2. Bismarck helping with her engines if possible( and saying she has fuel at this point), probably making the trip a little faster: :ok:

Re: How can we improve the website and forum?

Why not? People are not obliged to be part of that section of the forum if they don't want to. And for the others, they will get to know each other better.
