Re: Command Ceneters joint operations

Hi Tommy. The Admiral's Bridge had two parts to it, just as the navigating bridge had the armoured command center above it. Lutjens would have been in the armoured tower behind and slightly above the unarmoured bridge. I believe there are observation slits visible just above the bridge. In Scharnhor...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions

I have not said that the repair to Bismarck's bow would be easy. I have not suggested cutting out and making a butt joint as can be seen in the photos of AGS. I have suggested cutting away the petalling and forcing a plate against the hole so that the edges can be welded with a lap joint. It doesn't...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

Just checking ..... would these unskilled welders be the same crewmen who professionally welded the sheet steel plate(s) over the hole in Bismarck's shell plating to make the ship fully seaworthy? B Let's get this clear. The DC teams are made up of junior ratings under the leadership of NCOs. Some ...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

I have seen the interrogation report. The real thing - not the garbled mess which was presented here. The survivor was clearly not a skilled welder and could not perform the task. No surprise there. The attempt to weld the girder back into place appears to have been undertaken by the damage control ...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions

There is no way the attempts to seal the holes in the bow could fail. It is simple damage control. Such a failing would have been recorded and note would have been taken for further operations. Here is a sequence of photos showing how the men of Graf Spee fixed a hole in the bow of their ship using ...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions

Well I have no time for dictators or generals and their squabbles. Lutjens will have been aware of the world situation and would have been well aware of the political impact his operation would make on the rest of the world. Had he been able to secure a success he could have paralysed transatlantic ...

Re: Are the bad guys on the move again?

Planned economies and central Gov planning in general has a very poor record. East Germany anybody? Cuba anybody? North Korea anybody? When it doesn't work, and it never really does very well, they try to make it work through enforcement policies. This only leads to a loss of freedom and civil libe...

Re: A chance to be a figure in history...

Oh I am pretty sure there was life on Mars, though not perhaps in the form we might know. Then again, there is no miracle to life. Life will flourish in the most unlikely of places. Try and stop it. So whatever life was there will have been shaped by it's environment just as we were. I would suggest...

Re: The worlds poorest president

I would always favour a mass coup by the people. Military coups and fascist coups are anti working class. George Galloway was always a good left, but as an ultra left he lacks perspective and will never lead a mass of people. The status quo always continues, bosses on the top and workers down the bo...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions

The big numbers did not get there until August 44. However the point is the the Military chiefs were well up on what was going on nationally and internationally. Such information is essential if a military plan is to be drawn up for possible invasion, alliance, or just to arrange trade and the prote...

Re: The worlds poorest president

Problem is, the government will be formed by one of three main political parties - probably not the liberals - independents will not get a look in unless they give support to either Labour or Tory. The candidates for these two parties are selected at constituency meetings, but if they elect one who ...

Re: A chance to be a figure in history...

Mars is definitely the place to go and I would recommend it to all of the world's political leaders, their advisers and Military Chiefs. I think all royalty should go there too. I would have all of the heads of the churches around the world settle and try to establish their churches there. I would a...

Re: Are the bad guys on the move again?

Zhivago is fiction yes but it illustrates very well how life was back then. It illustrates nothing except the pro czarist sympathies of the producers. It is clear that very few people know what Russia was like when the Bolsheviks took power. Think of Ethiopia in 1985 and that gives you an idea the ...

Re: Are the bad guys on the move again?

The yanks are rattled by anything going on in the Middle East at present. They have put their foot in it more than once and despite all their attempts to down Al-Queada they have so far failed. They don't seem capable of learning from their mistakes. The only tactic a government can deploy against t...

Re: Lutjens' Intentions

Nazi Germany was not the monolith which wartime and postwar propaganda has painted. Hitler became a dictator but he had to continually demonstrate that he was democratic. He ran plebiscites to garner support for his actions and his propaganda ministry had to run continuously to convince people that ...
