Re: USN cruisers AA weapons (1941-1942)
Thank you. I already know that site, I should have looked at it better. I found anyway that it contain some errors. For example, it says: mid-1941, all: + 2 x 1 - 76/50 Mk 10/17/18/20/21; 2 x 4 - 28/75 Mk 1 late 1941, Philadelphia, Helena; 12/1941, Phoenix, Honolulu; : - 2 x 1 - 76/50; + 2 x 4 - 28/...

Re: Leanders
Ah, OK.
Many british cruisers had one turret removed in late war: some County, Orion and Southamptons.

Re: Leanders
No it wasn't the main armament removed. The main was 8 6" (4 twins) while the AA was 4 single 4".
It was the 4" that were removed (? why ?)

Re: Leanders
Thank you very much. I would say that probably she did not have 4 quad 2 pdr, but maybe one quad. Some ships had a quad 2pdr fitted instead of the aircraft catapult. Do you know if the catapult was retained after the late 1942 refit? I asked in another forum and the answer was: The normally reliable...

USN cruisers AA weapons (1941-1942)
I made some research about the AA weapons carried by USN cruisers at the beginning of WW2. Of course they were later substituted by 40mm Bofors as the became available. The preferred weapon was the quadruple 1.1", and 4 quad mounts were to be fitted aboard each modern cruisers (except Omahas) and ba...

Re: US battleships radars
Hello, Do you have the corresponding dates for North Carolina? From photo (most of them at navsource.org) it seems that North Carolina still had 2 Mk3 after the repair of torpedo damage in 1942. Anyway in april or in september 1943 she had one Mk8 fitted on the aft director. Possibly the second one ...

40mm Bofors or 1.1" ?
Hello, It seems that during the second half of 1942 the production of 40mm Bofors guns didn't reach the desired level, an not all the ships (new building or refits) could be fitted with the 40mm Bofors. For example the first three Fletchers were sent to South Pacific with 1.1" quad mount, and cruise...
