So a 15in shell could penetrate 7in + 1in HTS of side armour inclined at ~40 degs and still go through a 2in scarf at 10degs and still perforate a 2in deck inclined at 70 degs. This shows how very vulnerable Scharnhorst's deck was to plunging fire and it even implied that Bismarck was vulnerable th...

Re: 1919: Analysis of Hood's magazine protection

Why would we want to double check actual test results against a computer program? to see how accurate that computer program is. You have mentioned facehard several times before to support many of your arguments, so why not? But if you feel so inclined, please do so and give us the results. If I ask...

Re: 1919: Analysis of Hood's magazine protection

The drawing clearly shows that the target's 7in+1in HTS armour was penetrated at 40 degs inclination, and the shell went on to penetrate another 2in scarf, .75in bulkhead and perforated a 2in HTS deck after striking it at 70 degrees inclination. could all those values be double checked using faceha...

Bismarck would then be interned for the rest of the war, or I am missing something...

Metric tons and cubic meters are different. The offical density of heating oil used in the Kriegsmarine for calculations was 0.927. hello Mr. Herr Nilsson. in the scan you uploaded earlier it is written 0.97 density I think. Spez. Gewicht? http://www.kbismarck.org/forum/download/file.php?id=706

Re: Bismarck immunity zone

I would think Bismarck IZ was calculated versus her own 15 inch guns.
The IZ considers immunity of the ships vitals not everything above the main armor belt.

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

dunmunro, are you the one posting in the navweaps forums as Andy01? No, but like many of us, I monitor other groups for interesting posts. Coincidently you regularly participate in the same type of subjects and use the same arguments that Andy01 uses in the Navweaps forums. Must be your clone.

Re: Denmark Strait and RN Articles of War

so 448 rounds fired = 68% for a total of 659 possible. 448 plus 126 = 574 out of 659 = 87%. I didn't eliminate all errors in drill, just the single error that caused a loss of 74 rounds, and the single problem that resulted in the loss of 51 more. However it is interesting that in the USN each erro...

Rheinubung is as well within the battle of the Atlantic. it is really a campaign inside a bigger campaign. Battle of the Atlantic > Rheinubung > Denmark st...
