Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Actually, if you have a look at what the 1st post on this topic says, the Japs have already won at Miedway. The question is what will happen next - invasion of Hawaii, peace or whatever else.

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

OK nobody is actually considering the surrender of USA. There are indications that the American people would not approve an unsuccessful war in the Pacific (everybody would take loss of Hawaii seriously) and that something like peace treay could take place. Of course that many believe this wouldn't ...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Maybe I'm missing one, but I can't think of another. Swap Ranger with Wasp. I'm pretty shure the Essex was operational early in 43 If it were operational already then, how come its first action was at the end of August? You probably saw that it came into Pacific in May, after being commissioned in ...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

@lwd. Yeah, I thought I would get it on Amazon anyway if I couldn't find it. Thanks for help! A lot of variables. It's a lot of variables on whatever topic we can start to talk about! I guess that's why it's called hypothetical naval scenarios... @Bgile. Very nice ideas, but I'd be glad if I saw som...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Thx for a couple of useful links. Damn I would like to read Shattered Sword but I couldn't find it... I thought the Japanese cruisers and destroyers might meet some resistance from shore batteries like on Wake, so they could call for reinfrorcing BBs before the landing took place. It's a good idea, ...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

I like your new posts guys, but as always I have to reply. @ Bgile. So you're saying that US pilots except for ones from Yorktown didn't use Thatch Weave? That would imply to US CAP performance similar to Coral Sea (very bad results), right, so Japanese air attack would definitely be fatal. If you h...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

@minoru genda. Yamato would probably sink the Midway island. @Iwd. Hmmm, where to start? Let's begin with Hawaii. Oil wouldn't be a problem if this is supposed to be the last operation for Japanese Navy before the ''peace''. So they would give everything they had. The P40s efficiency grew during the...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Thanks for the good posts, that's exactly what is needed - a good discussion, rather than fighting over stupid things like US fighters from early in the war being able to cope with Zero. @Legend. Come on man, I'm not calling the US pilots stupid. Why would you think that? ''Less skilled'' means that...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

@IWD. Are you intentionally ''misquoting'' me? If you're watching only dogfights, not including AA fire, the Japanese lost six planes (plus two heavily damaged). The US had 15 downed and 8 too badly damaged. That's 23 to 8 aircraft lost in air-to-air combat, and not 15 to 14 which you said. At Coral...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Losses over Midway were few, if you're not taking USMC Reports seriously. The Japs lost, as I can recall, nine planes, and five more were damaged beyond repair, correct me if I'm wrong. This is according to the Japanese data. Out of this nine planes, three were lost due to AA fire. So it leaves what...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

Right. But look at a couple of factors: Japanese here have the finest aircrews ever . US is rather less experienced and their aircraft still aren't any match for the Japanese types. Out of the US aircraft, which do you think can make serious damage to the Japanese fleet? SBDs of course, but B17s, P3...

Re: Japanese Victory at Midway

How about this. Japan wins at Midway where the US loses Enterprise, Yorktown, and Hornet. Japan captures New Caledonia, Samoa, Fiji, of course they can't risk invading Australia with US still behind, so they must attack Hawaii - there is a choice to either attack or wait for the US industry to just ...
