Re: A ship history : Admiral Hipper

Ciao all @ MJQ, the colours were RAL 7001 Hellgrau the base light grey and RAL 7024 Dunkelgrau the dark grey camo patterns. Turret tops were Red on RAL 3010 or Yellow on RAL 1003, as during Op. Re: A ship history : Admiral Hipper

What are the colors for the January 1941 "Leaving Brest" and July 1942 "Operation Rosselsprung" camouflage schemes? I'm interested in finding the White Ensign Colorcoat equivalents.

Thanks,

Re: ICM Grosser Kurfurst 1/350 model

There are reviews of the Konig (same kit) here and here.

There are no 1/350 models - in either injection molded plastic or resin - of Iron Duke and Friedrich der Grosse. There are models available of each in 1/700.

Re: Goodbye Iowa and Wisconsin

A certain Congressman named Pombo from California eveidently has succeeded in passing a bill that orders the Secretary of the Navy to turn over battleship Iowa to the city of Stockton, California to become a museum. The Government Accounting Office released a report in November stating the Navy had...

Antonio,

As always - thanks for your insight and willingness to share your depth of knowledge. It is appreciated.

I'll have to do some more research and then decide which way to portray Emden. The 2 tone scheme is quite striking.

Thanks,

Antonio,

Wow, that is interesting. I have the HP 1/700 kit, which seems to represent the Emden in 1944 (has the radar platform). I've seen other sources say she was two tone in 1944 - Glad I asked!

As always, thanks.

Re: History's last true Naval Gunnery battle.

It's an interesting little skirmish. However, I don't know how it qualifies as the last pure gunnery battle. There is a book focusing on this battle. I can't recall the title, though I suspect a search at Amazon for Komandorski would find it. Morison covers the battle, though misidentifying the mar...

Re: Kirishima

Sounds like the lower hull shrunk more than the upper hull. You'd need to cut the lower hull down the center, then fill in the gap with something, like resin. Or, you could just build it as a waterline version. On my copy of Kirishima, the width of the upper and lower hulls match, but the lower hull...

And, of course, the location where USS Missouri is berthed at Pearl today is just where USS Oklahoma, outboard, and USS Maryland, inboard, were berthed on December 7, 1941. The Mighty Mo's hull is right over the spot where Oklahoma capsized. When you stand on the Missouri's deck, looking out over t...

The late Stephen Ambrose wrote that the US Army Rangers were, at the time of the Normandy landings in June 1944, the best soldiers in the world.

Interesting questions, but very subjective.
