I beleive the Kearney was only damaged and not sunk in that incident. Accordling to Wikipedia she was only struck from the navy list in 1971. (I know, I know, wiki...but wiki is probabaly good enough for this purpose.)

Kampon boilers
Hello all, I know he IJN followed British Naval practice and philosophy in many areas, is this also the case in their naval machinery--perhaps at least as a starting point for developing their own ideas? I find many mentions of Japanese warhsips being equipped with Kampon Boilers, but I haven't real...

Re: Now a question about funnel caps....
Ahh, thanks for that. Of course, that was one of the possibilities I was thinking about, but didn't include in my post! C'est la vie. I suppose now would be as good a time as any to warn you that I'll have a lot more questions like this to come in the days ahead! :)

question about armor construction/assembly
Hi all, I am new here, so forgive me if this has been covered and I've just missed it; how are armored belts (or decks) actually assembled? I find it hard to believe that a given belt could be one giant slab--if for no other reason than the material handling capability of the time could'nt move such...
