Question about armor effective thickness

Hello fellow forum members. Once my friend told me, that after certain thickness armor plate becomes "less effective". If that is true, what is the maximum effective thickness (anything thicker and diminishing returns will kick in) of Homogeneous and Face Hardened armor plates? :think:
