Re: PoW shell splash

Good day everyone!

After reading the discussion in this thread with interest, I have got a few new questions.
How high do you approximately calculate the splash to be?
Would a 15" shell splash look much different in size compared to the 14" in the photo?

Kind regards,
Daniel

Re: PoW shell splash

Thank you gentlemen, for the answers!
How very intimidating those splashes must have been. Enormous in size.

All the best!

PoW shell splash

Hi everyone!

I have been wondering if the nearest shell splash in this photo is from one or multiple 14inch shells.
does anyone know?

Thanks in advance!

Gneisenau AVKS report

Hi everyone!
In the Avks-700 from Bismarck there is sometimes references to the Gneisenau final report.
is that report anywhere to be found?

Kind regards,
Daniel

Battleship Command: Scharnhorst

Good day gentlemen! I am working on a simulation of a (fictional) Scharnhorst class ship. I'm doing as much research as I can on the class, and with my limited skills in 3d-programming trying to simulate it. Have a look at this video, and feel free to suggest features that I could add which would ma...

Re: Target data

Is there any gunnery manual similiar to the RN and USN posted earlier, but from the german ships available anywhere? I read somewhere that a few manuals was found on Prinz Eugen. Are they online? It seems Bismarck and Prinz Eugen had some similar equipment. From PE: http://www.shiparchive.com/ships/...

Re: Target data

Thank you for the links!
They are indeed interesting.

I find no reference to a computer/tool which would help estimate targets speed or heading.
So I assume it was done with pen, paper and a ruler, based on range and bearing of the target at different times.

Daniel

Re: Target data

Thanks Thorsten!
This is very interesting data for my simulation.
Do you know what xx-Facher means?

If I understand correctly the atleast one of the ships are moving according to the first document, any info on how fast they were steaming?

Kind regards,
Daniel

Re: Target data

Good day Bill! Thank you for your answer. Regarding own ships speed and course, would Bismarcks target computers automatically update the info from the "speedometer" and gyroscope? If hand cranked it would still be fairly easy data to collect. Range to target would be collected from the different st...

Target data

Hi everyone! I have been wondering which methods the crew had to calculate the speed of the target? Did they even bother to measure target speed precisly when they were steaming at 30 knots themselfs? I assume they first needed to guess the distance to the target and then look at variables like targ...

Re: Command/admirals bridge

Here's a better look at one of the panels:

Any ideas what it does?
It seems to switch between Z, S and V.
Can it mean Zuruck, Stopp, Voreres?

Re: Command/admirals bridge

Hi guys!

Does anyone know what these, marked in red, panels are?
The photo is from Scharnhorst, but I imagine Bismarck would have panels with the same function in it's command bridge.

Cheers!

Re: Command/admirals bridge

Great video José! I have missed that one.
Yes, it has to be that bridge!

Does anyone know of any photo from the admirals bridge, from any german battleship or cruiser?

Thanks for the help everyone!

Bracer
