Re: Raeder/Bismarck photo research

Yes, I agree.
Lützow did in fact arrive in Gotenhafen on 11 April (she entered the harbor the next day) and Bismarck was at Seebahnhof between 11-14 April.

Re: Raeder/Bismarck photo research

Antonio, I have just realized that the photo you posted can NOT be from November 1940, since the Bismarck has dark turret tops and the battleflag is hoisted from the mainmast (it should be at the stern flagstaff). As for the cruiser, it has the bow towards Bismarck, and, I may be wrong but it looks ...

Re: Raeder/Bismarck photo research

Wow! Great photo, thanks for sharing! :ok: Do you know the exact date it was taken? I have checked Bismarck's KTB again (see scan below), and now I think it can only possibly be 16-18 November when Bismarck was at Seebahnhof. The rest of days the battleship was at sea or anchored in the Bay of Danzi...

Re: Raeder/Bismarck photo research

Thank you very much for your reply Antonio, your plan was especially helpful. OK then, since we agree it is the cruiser Köln moored there, I just checked the ship's KTB and found that Köln was indeed in Gotenhafen at that time. She arrived in Gotenhafen on 16 November from Kiel, and remained there u...

Raeder/Bismarck photo research

This is a still taken from "Die Deutsche Wochenschau" film, dated 11 December 1940. It shows Admiral Raeder inspecting the crew of the Bismarck in Gotenhafen. Raeder's visit was not recorded on Bismarck's KTB, but it most likely took place during the second half of November 1940. http://ww...

Re: Photo Identification

OTOH the dress code could be ordered different from regulation. Peaked caps for example had to be white after April 20th for all Officer, but you will hardly find a picture with white caps at all. There are several photos of Lindemann wearing a white cap in May 1941 before Rheinübung. However durin...

It seems a new Bismarck Anatomy of the Ship edition will be published later this year, by Polish 3D artist Stefan Draminski.

What do you think about Boris Johnson as Foreign Secretary?
... and, what will be the impact of Brexit on the British colony of Gibraltar?

Re: Gneisenau Radar Capabilities 1941

Also from the same KTB, it is written that at 2000 hours on 16 March, Gneisenau radar device located a battleship of the Nelson Class at 23,800 meters. This was just after sinking the Danish "Chilean Reefer" (1,739 GRT). The battleship was actually the Rodney and Lütjens decided to run away.
