Re: Rommel

Rommel's knowledge and tacit approval of the assassination attempt on Hitler would probably have had a mitigating effect on not being tried.

Re: What if Hitler had listened to his Generals?

Most importantly in my mind, no halt of the German offensive at Dunkerque.

Re: Iron Coffins by Herbert Werner

This issue has been discussed at soome length at uboat.net and the consensus was that soem of the actions as represented by Mr. Werner are not supported by naval records. Nevertheless, it was a good read and despite the inconsistencies, it was a good portrayal of the service.

Re: Schopp, Palatinate, Germany

With the vegetarian overgrowth, a photo would not be useful, although one can reasonably see that the mound was too symetrical to be entirely natural. I believe that we did take a photo of the alleged machine gun nest and I will forward that when able. I did do some research today and see that some ...

Also posted in the Off Topic Forum While visiting this past week, I walked with some local friends into the fields behind the village and was shown what appeared to be an extensive network of unreinforced trenches. Re: Tirpitz shelling New York

On the surface of it, the harbor defenses appear formidable but a close review seems to indicate that the old vintage of many of the guns would not have the range against a Tirpitz laying far ashore. And if the initial poor defensive performance of the US against the u-boat operations was any indica...

Dana Wynter has Died

The redoubtable and lovely Dana Wynter, who played Anne Davis in Sink the Bismarck, has just died. Did Anne Davis have a rank in the movie? The movie details that I see do not specify.

And Mike, when you run through again, you will see the lovely Dana Wynter and not the long gone America actor, Dana Andrews. Just for the record. :D
