"We've seen the same pattern of massive deficit spending by the previous 3 Republican admins ..." Which Republican administration was it that doubled the national debt of the United States in eight years? B President Donald Trump: Total Actual plus Budgeted = $5.683 trillion, almost as much in one ...

Re: President Trump: mid-term

The dependence of the US on massive deficit spending is frightening. When interest rates rise, as we know they will, then the proverbial s__t will hit the fan and it will be 2007 all over again. We've seen the same pattern of massive deficit spending by the previous 3 Republican admins, and there's ...

Re: Bismarck firing procedures at DS

Back however to the Bismarck track and firing , it is clear that Mr.Wadinga has been left alone by all his co-deniers with his theory that the correct battlemap is the 1990 one, published in the last edition of the Baron's book. Yeah, how could a battlemap drawn by two of the actual gunnery officer...

Re: B29's in UK

The RAF was supplied with ~100 B-29s which were named 'Washingtons' in RAF service. They operated in the early 1950s to close the gap between the development of UK nuclear weapons and the jet powered V-bombers.

Re: Naval Battle of Guadalcanal

Just checked several versions of this battle. The short version is the SD was leading and perhaps 500-1000 meters to the Washintons starboard - closer to the enemy. When the SD was hit its speed fell off rapidly, causing it to mask the enemy from the accelerating Washington as it pass on the SD por...

Re: 'Superior' German & Japanese Optics & Rangefinders

It was superior doctrine not optics that gave one side an advantage over the other at night. The RN learned from the Germans (the hard way during WW1) how to fight effectively at night and perfected their techniques between the wars, and they taught the IJN what they learned. The IJN used flashless ...

Re: Standard v full load

There was a gentlemans agreement amongst the treaty powers that allowed for small increases in displacement beyond the limit because it was hard to accurately estimate many of the construction and weapon weights. There was also an unwritten allowance made for ships to be able to carry 'overloads' of...

Re: Bismarck firing procedures at DS

It is sometimes possible to set up logic tests for various assumptions to see if the assumption passes/fails the test. For example, A/A's contention that Norfolk and Suffolk at 0600 were much closer to Hood, Bismarck and PE than stated by W-W and plotted by Pinchin. The test for this assumption was ...

Re: Standard v full load

Thanks for you replies, if standard displacement does not allow for fuel and there is a discrepancy of around 10000 tons, would that all be fuel or was there some rather crafty armour or armament additions? Also I still not sure why the RN would build new ships that were inferior to the QE's not on...

Re: Standard v full load

Here's the exact wording that defines Standard Displacement: The standard displacement of a ship is the displacement of the ship complete, fully manned, engined, and equipped ready for sea, including all armament and ammunition, equipment, outfit, provisions and fresh water for crew, miscellaneous s...

Hello everybody, Dunmunro wrote: "This is what Leach states about KM output after ~0603......" about two enemy salvos were seen short during this period "" ...however PG film and photos show at least 9 (most probably 11 or 12) salvos fired after 6:03:30 (Bismarck turn away time). Re: Bismarck firing procedures at DS

As I have argued at length, PoW was fighting two opponents, and her secondary armament was out of action (two minutes prior to Hood's loss if you accept the 0600 timing), so we have PoW with ~7 effective guns versus ~34 on the KM side, and a single hit from any of those 34 guns could knock out PoW'...
