Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Hi all, thanks to Antonio's work, this is the only available battlemap (an evolution of 2005 Antonio's map) as per today (if we exclude Pinchin's Plot, already demonstrated as intentionally incorrect). This map has been published on "Storia Militare" n.281 in 2017, after being checked by ...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Wadinga wrote: "Busch does not say Suffolk, he does not say cruiser, he does not say ship, he says mast." Hi Sean, yes, he says a mast on bearing 15° at 176 hectometers. He also says the other enemies are on bearing 96° (Norfolk) and 157° (BC1) and these are perfectly matching the bearing...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Dunmunro wrote: "If Norfolk had closed to 9nm she would probably have been sunk by Bismarck." Hi Duncan, not at all, as demonstrated by Suffolk running at 9 sm (176 hectometers as per F.O.Busch or 18.000 yards as per Ellis autobiography) at around 5:30, before her turn away) and not being...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Dunmunro wrote: "her (Norfolk) maximum speed on 24 May 1941 was probably ~30.5 knots." Hi Duncan, thanks for the info, however, on May 24, all ships were consistently running faster than their max theoretical speed, due to water temperature AND due to the exceptional circumstances (e.g. w...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Hello everybody, @ Herr Nilsson, Norfolk top speed was 31,5 knots. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Norfolk_(78) If you listen again to WW recorded interview you will notice that he declared is awareness of the BC1 presence ( we knew they must be ) and also to know their intentions, ... only he di...

Re: Vanguard and Bismarck

Gentlemen, I often wonder why Vanguard was not fitted with 8 x16" to make her more comparable with US ships. I realize that the 15" gun was a tried and tested weapon, but was it because the RN knew that the battleship era was over and so just fitted whatever they had available at the time...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Hello everybody, @ Wadinga, unfortunately for you this very smart Officer was able on his report to state one thing, ... and the opposite in another phrase, ... either before or after, ... on the same document, ... several times and not only about this topic, ... So at point 7 on his report...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Exactly. I also find it very interesting that A&A only want to use only those parts of W-W's recording that they feel supports their position but won't accept W-W's very clear statement about the open fire sequence which, of course, completely destroys Antonio's reconstruction of the battle. W-W...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, we know very well at what distance he was at a certain point into the battle, since he himself signed his own declaration at the Hood first board of inquiry. We know what he and others did after that initial declaration ... now. We can evaluate what he should or could h...

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, assuming that he knew why he was doing by shadowing the enemy, ... by just using the Suffolk in reality to do so, as he admitted on his recorded declaration too, ... and what Holland with the BC1 force was supposed to do once had intercepted the enemy, ... since he sure...

Re: Bismarck original KTB still existing ?

Hello everybody, @ Dunmunro, you wrote : So W-W knew exactly what Lutjens was going to do? Obviously not, ... that was going to ask for too much to this Officer.
