How feeble...

In what sense are the D&G drawings innacurate, because I will surely contact them about your detailed concerns? Their work seems to agree with some other sources to hand (some great quotes from Roberts here), so perhaps a few specifics on your part about exactly where the authors are amiss are i...

A degree in what?

Gosh, you have devolved a bit. I am basing my views on the cross-sectional diagrams from D&G and others. Look at the forward frames, about frame 20, see the splinter protection thickness of the Vanguard -- 60+ mm. Compare this with the KGV class. Do the same aft. You know these things. As for Ho...

Richard, you know the differences...

.... between the KGV armor design and Vanguard, so why be so very disengenuous in stating that these differences amount to little more than the shaving of an inch from the Vanguard's main belt? Look forward and aft of the citadel in the two designs, and the use of more splinter armor in the Vanguard...

Look more closely...

... and you will see both external and internal differences. You can tell us what these are.

Thank you.

Hi Steve: Yes, I can be a pain in the butt, which is the sure sign of immaturity, too much pride, and a certain lack of grace. It is odd. Part of me knows it is best to be polite and "nice," but years of coaching, being a competitive lifter, etc., seem to have activated a damn attack butto...

It's all about pride...

Hi Patrick: Yes, things could have gone better here. The problems are manifold. In some cases, we have loud, obsequeous sots pretending to have knowledge and abilities that they very obviously do not -- empty drums as we call them. Then we have the main combatents, who do not cut each other any slac...

.... who has brought us the debriefings of the survivors...?

Ulrich did the translations and I did the editing. It seems a few people were involved in making this material accessible -- to Antonio and everyone else. It's very common knowledge, and the German text is also available -- to those who can actually read the language.

Antonio...

... why not accept what is obvious and move on? You've read the "Merchant of Venice" and you have won your pound of flesh -- if that is what we call victory in this test of scenerios. That's quite enough, unless you prefer flesh dripping with blood. As for the cheerleader, it is a sad iron...

Bob would be crazy to post here.

Hi Antonio: Don't place me in the same sentense with some of those who have commented on Rob's book. I detest Rob bashing, which seems to be a popular game. We have folks who haven't displayed the ability and/or courage to write books ripping Rob's work to shreds. We even have someone without an adv...

Some new "old" things have surfaced...

... in recent years that shed light on what happened -- such as the exploration of the wreck to locate torpedo damage, etc.. That was not available a long time ago, and it certainly was revealing. Moreover, having worked translating the Bismarck KTB -- that added a few insights to those researchers ...

On repetition...

Hi All: As I have said to all concerned, appeals to authority are of little use here. I thus discount the views of Sir Ludovic Kennedy, Prof. Dr. Jurgen Rohwer, the German Office of Military History Research, Robert Gardiner of Chatham Publishing, and the Editorial Staff of the U.S. Naval Institute ...

A matter of predicting results.

In terms of the divergent results, the main difficulty I can see is in predicting armor behavior. In this case, we have relatively small sample sizes and thus extrapolating the results to general notions is a risky business. Nonetheless, the general "rule" became that Japanese BB armor is ...

Let's not get lost in Names...

Hi Rob: Please call the map whatever you like, but I think it does reflect your position on the battle. As for the cards being stacked against you, I have tried to remain in the middle. That being said, I certainly do not find the appeals to those who support your rendition very convincing because t...

Re: Birtish and US tests on Japanese armor...

Hi Marti:

The results are so divergent that either the British got an outstanding set of samples or the US received very poor samples indeed. The results of the two series of tests are not easily reconsiled.

Thank you.

Hi Bill: This general conclusion is inescapable. I think it might be fun to crunch the numbers of the 2,240 pound shell vs the 2,700 pound shell with regard to stability indicies over various points in the mid-range and maximal range trajectory curves, and this might make a very interesting exercise...
