Re: New Tirpitz and Bismarck books

Just in case you didn't know, TP Vol. II is now available. We think it is even better than Vol. I, and we believe the book is worth the time you were waiting for it.

Ready for combat

Re: New Tirpitz and Bismarck books

Hi all ~ If you want to learn more about Vol. I, please check the Review at Modelwarships.com and one of the first letters of feedback in English we received some time ago. If you're facing problems ordering that book via the shop site, just hit the "Kontakt" button and write in plain Engl...

Re: Bismarck proper name "He" or "She"

Thorsten, to me this looks pretty much like a grammar mistake or a typo instead of a personal choice between the feminine and masuline gender. Here should have worked the genitive case best in order to point out the masculine gender ("Verlust des Bismarcks" (he/it) vs. "Verlust der Bi...

I don't have it. What's your opinion? Is it worth buying? Or is it just one more Bismarck book?

Re: How many if any crewmembers of Bismarck are still alive?

Another sad news... On September 29 Otto Höntzsch passed away at the age of 93. I received an invitation from Ottos family to the memorial service scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, Oct. 05 at 1400hrs in the chapel on the Pattensen cemetry near Winsen/Luhe. The funeral will be in approx. 14 days in a w...

Re: Explosion of an X-Craft charge found in Kåfjord

Thanks Paul for that, maybe our divers used larger demolition charges (thanks for the term!), maybe that's why we never saw two distinct explosions ... hmmm ... something to think about (and you never know what they really blew up. One problem was to clearly identify a mine (or whatever). It could b...

Re: Explosion of an X-Craft charge found in Kåfjord

After a couple of years in a German minesweeper squadron I can tell you that they simply blow the mine/charge into pieces. The explosion you see is from the charge set by the diver, not necessarily the old and possibly rotten mine/charge. It looks impressive, no doubt, but it just makes a neat headl...

Re: Help!

Maybe the stern anchor would have been used as a stream anchor, not really as one securing the ship like the bow anchors did. http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1O225-streamanchor.html I think it could have been deployed in order to supplement the bow anchor. If your anchoring in strong currents, you m...

Re: Searchlight Use

I think searchlights would be impractical. Given the great distance, the 'beam' needs to point exactly at the enemy's optics, even a fraction of a degree off, and you would ruin the blinding effect. Think about how difficult it would be to 'hit' the small optics and to keep the beam on a moving targ...

Re: Bismarck commerce raiding

Old R class battleships and such really represented not much more than a bluff in the face of modern battleships or battlecruisers, because something like the Bismarck or Gneiesnau can just stand off at a longer range and pummel one of these old unmodernized battleships. I'm not sure if one of the ...

Re: Tovey's decision

My other question is this, during the battle PoW hit Bismarck in the bow with a shell that did not explode, puncturing her forward fuel tank, what would the effect been had that shell exploded in the tank? One small correction here; there was no fuel tank damaged. Both the entrance and exit hole of...
