Bismarck Myths

I think like every famous battleship from any navy myths will build up around that ship. I also think it is true that the leading battleship designs of any time can lay claim to be the best / heaviest / greatest at something. This is because every battleship is not a complete design for any one thin...

Shaft and Rudder Configuration in Battleships

The effects of the rudders have on the ship becomes even more confusing when you consider that the Bismarck/Tirpitz and the Scharnhorst/Gniesenau both had angled rudders and angled prop shafts i.e the rudders were not vertical and the wing shafts were not parallel to the centreline of the ship (they...

no swordfish shot down by bismarck

The problem of shooting down anything is trying to predict the distance infront that you have to aim which will depend on the distance away of the target, the speed of the target and your movement. If a plane was coming straight at you to launch a torpedo and you were not moving then torpedo would h...

I have never seen a 1/350 scale model of the Hood for sale from any of the major manufacturers, but Heller do Hood, Bismarck and I am sure a King George V in 1/400.

director question

I may be long but I believe that there was only three positions that all the main turrets could be directed from. These being on the top of the main forward bridge, on the top of the tower and just aft of the main mast.

Longest Gunfire Hit

I have heard but could not confirm that the longest range that a battleship ever hit another ship in battle was by HMS Warspite in the Med against possibly the Vittorio Veneto. Does anyone have more info on this and what was the range?

Bismarck Plans

I have previously built a model of the Bismarck to a scale of 1/144 many years ago. I would now like to replace the model as my modelling experience has improved and I do not think my previous model does it justice. Is there any where I can get a copy of a set of plans to 1/128 scale. I have also no...
