Re: The Climate Change agenda

Here in beautiful Saskatoon Saskatchewan Canada, it was -17 C this am. In Regina Saskatchewan just 240km south of Saskatoon, it was -20 C this morning. That is the coldest ever recorded since 1893. In Saskatoon, our first snow fall that stuck around was October 22, 2012. Here it is April 9th, and we...

Re: German Capital Ships of the Second World War

I just recieved this book the other day and have had just enough time for a quick look. I am very impressed. The book has 432 pages of many photographs I have never seen before. The section on Bismarck page 316 to page 365 contains around 95 pirtures of Bismarck of which most have been published bef...

Re: Hipper Class Deck Rings

I believe the rings are to catch the spent shell cases. Somewhere there is a picture with a bunch of cases piled up by these rings.

The drawings are the same, it will be in the hands of the lawyers to see how they want to proceed.

Re: DWG Drawings of the Bismarck

Funny how these drawings look exactly like the one in "Anatomy of the Ship The Battleship Bismarck" It might be interesting to find out what the lawyers at Conway Maritime Press, who own these drawing think.

Stay tuned

Re: U.S.S. Alabama Memorial Park

The V1 had a single tail, where that one has a twin tail. The Japanese played around with the same idea as the V1, but I believe they went with a twin tail similar to their maned Baka. Boy it has been about 10 years since I have been to see the Alabama, and the paint has sure gone down hill. I don't...

Re: Armor of the Admiral Hipper class cruisers

With the sloping edges to the plate it is hard to tell the exact thickness. I have pictures of Lutzow and Seydlitz and the plate is on them as well. It really is a mystery that is for sure. I wonder if the archives in Washington would have more information? The US managed to get their hands on a bun...

Re: Armor of the Admiral Hipper class cruisers

To me, when looking at all the pictures, and all the info I have on the Hipper class and Prinz Eugen, I believe that the armour is 80mm belt that is extending outside the bulge to frame 167.5

Re: Armor of the Admiral Hipper class cruisers

Looking at pictures of Prinz Eugen, the thicker plate appears to be abreast of turret A above and below the water line. My guess is the additional armour runs from 157.6 to 167.5. Not sure the thickness of the additional armour in this area.

Re: Watertight compartments

Leading Stoker Fred Barrett was on duty at the time of the collision in boiler-room #6. He managed to get into boiler-room #5 and was working the pumps when the bulkhead between 6 and 5 gave way and rapidly flooded boiler-room 5. Barrett was lucky to survive the sinking of Titanic and got off the sh...

Re: Watertight compartments

One of the water tight bulkheads on the Titanic gave way while she was sinking, due to the water pressure on the other side. I believe experts claim the mass destruction of the stern was due to implosion of air trapped spaces.

Try looking at the following for more information

Also if you could post some pictures of the gun, and close up of markings, I am sure someone on here could help identify the gun.

German Naval Guns by Miroslaw Skwiot

Hello All

Has anyone purchased German Naval Guns 1939-1945 by Miroslaw Skwiot? I was wondering how different is this book from the 3 volumes by the same author published by AJ-Press. Is there any new information, or is the AJ-Press books just compiled into one.

Thanks

Jack

Re: area between anton and bruno on scharnhorst

My guess is that they are ventilation intakes. I probably have pictures of them somewhere in my collection. If I find a picture, I will scan it an e-mail it to you.
