Ikarus was an Island in the Atlantic according to the Mercador map of 1569. This was a mystical bird or a bird Island, according to the Greeks. Birds, Bird Island and aeroplanes. A good name for a clandistine operation to attack British on the Island of Ikarus.

Re: Hood's sinking: the timing of that fatal hit
There is something about the fatal hit and the fire. Some suggest that the fire caused the explosion when that thing enterd into the feeding powder tube to the gunns from the powder cargo room in the center of the ship, the Hood. When She blew, She broke in two parts, stern and bow. How the fire sta...

Re: Bismarck and the whistle blower.
Herr Nilsson The source is closer to you than to me. You schould contact Freiburgs Militærarciv and ask for the ships handwritten original journey log for the bridge and engineroom. This is what I have done, I want the original, not the typed version. I am now refering to the ships log, not the Krig...

Re: Bismarck and the whistle blower.
There is a big difference between a ship journey log and a Krigstagbuch/diary. On the ship there is one in the bridge and one in the engine room, events written by pen on board. Both telling a story on board. The Krigstagbuch/diary is a land written story by who knows, who, long after the event take...

Re: Bismarck and the whistle blower.
Hi, Thorsten If you go to, "Bismarcks endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn", further down the page, you will see the fuel mats done. The journey log for Prince Eugen indicates that the two ships left Norway in a big hurry at speed of 32 kn. That is no long range, economy speed for the two ...

Bismarck and the whistle blower.
Two things had to come to gether before the Krigsmarine sent out a ship on a mission. The first thing was the air recconnance mission and the second one the order to sail, once the first one was fullfilled. It was the OKW that gave the order. The first order for Bismarck to sail was on marz the 19. ...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.
There are always disbelivers in all communities, against all and everything. That is the funny part of communications. By the way, 5 of the surrvivors died later in captivity.

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.
Operation Ikarus was the name given by the Germans for the invation of Iceland in June 1940. Operation Weserubung must have felt easy to perform, rolling over Denmark and Norway but to continue over to Iceland caused some hesitation by German war expert like Rader of the Krigsmarine. Göring of the L...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.
The name of the operation can fool anybody, ubung, Rhinubung, or in english, schooling or training mission. This was a very good word for a clandistine shadow mission given to the tradegy once the Bismarck was on the bottom of the ocean. This is all Carl Dönitz doing and he has been fooling all of u...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.
There are countless shadow clandistine operations performed by the Krigsmarine, Luftwaffe and Army in WWII. The Operation Rhainubung is one of them. This shadow operation is all Hitler and Carl Dönitz with Rader set to the side for dragging his feet in getting the Bismarck into operation. The Britis...
