Funny, because I think by placing the mainmast at the back of the funnel gives it more beauty then Scharnhorst.

I believe the suprising thing about the ships is it Beam. At 4.9cm on a 1:1250 model, the real ship would have a beam of 50-60 meters long (approx)   From Wikipedia: …We stopped in the port of Calicut, in which there were at the time thirteen Chinese vessels, and disembarked. Perhaps the first failed attack from the Swordfish fueled their courage to destroy the mighty Bismarck?

marcelo_malara wrote:Which would be the difference in the maker of the turbine in steering with the damaged rudder?
That is true but I am wondering if Brown-Boveri geared turbines had better steering without rudder assitence (Blohm and Voss geared turibnes did not).

Earlier Costas mentionned some improvements on the Tirpitz that could have had a different effect durning Rheinbung. It is known that during the trials of the Bismarck in Baltic that it turbines (Blohm and Voss geared turibnes) had difficulty turning with both rudders locked. But we know that the Ti...

Its a shame that we can't place the Hippers in the list because their were cruisers. I think Gneisenau should replace Sharnhorst in the "Most Beautiful BB" But in my opinon I think the other nine ships are out of the Bismarck's league in Beauty (except: for Littorio, Yamato and Richelieu)....

That is true Bgile that no shot actually hit the catapult.

The shot from POW hit one of the boats on top of the hangar and the boat was shattered (source: Battleship Bismarck a Survior's Story)

I agree with Langoy that we should consider Gneisenau as Beautiful.

I kind of disagree with USS ships Being beautiful. While they general figure was fine I don't like them being so tightly armed, it makes them look somewhat less beautiful. This is just my thought but I don't like 2 funnels.

I don't know about all the auxilary raiders as most of then operated far from the Atlantic and while they were successful did not seem to arouse fear as they operated far from German waters. Because of that I don't exactly feel the Pinguin's part was all that great or any of the Raiders. The same go...

That is very true that they would not dare to try and place one on a BF-109. Its frame simply just could not support it, being so weak and flimsy (not weak but just less solid). Most of its regualar loads were not too big either. At its time it was considered good (It was picked from a design contes...

Well you can't just solely base a movie on facts and historical accuracy (You need the general stuff though), that just becomes more or less a documentary. The simple purpose of a movie is to entertain people and thus make money. That is why you got to change things a bit. I think putting more drama ...

Well their is always people that under/overestimated slow aircraft. Anyway even though they failed to shoot the aircraft they managed to dodge most of the torpedos except for 1 fatal torpedo and one less fatal one. I am just curious but is it hard to shoot while constently moving in a random directi...

I am not so sure about storing all those planes. For one they were supposed to used for reconnaisence not aircraft patrol. The Reich Air ministry never seemed to have wanted fighter aircraft on their big warships. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that Fw-190's were first in service at august 19...

I am sorry Mr.Allen as of the brave men of Schlachtschiff Bismarck are all dead. The last survior of Bismarck died in October 2006 at Roseneath Ontario. The only survivor living in the US was Bruno Rzonca. He died too. You can view the crew list and a list of surviors of the Bismarck on this website...
