Re: German coastal and rail mounted guns

As an aside, I'm not too sure of the logic of having large guns mounted on railway infrastructure unless you have command of the air. The enemy only has to bomb the tracks to render the weapon stationary.... The reason to use railway guns is easy explained. Railways have a much higher payload, so y...

Re: Washington

@dunmro
I wonder were you have the information ftom, that BS used EM II for range taking. I was under the impression that the one on Schnws station was defective. I'm not shure that it was possible to take range ftom an other station than direction.

Re: Sinking of French Fleet

I would question that the French ships would get priority over PoW. Actually the British yards had nothing to work with. Not a single screw would fit.

@lwd
Why Do you think BS was fully worked up?
The Baron mentioned that it would have need 24 months to fully traib the crew and do all necessary tests. Also the AVKs mentioned the lack of training and tests.

Re: Marines in the Pacific vs Waffen SS

I want to make following points: 1. It was in 1942 or 43 when it was possible toget ordered from the Heer to the Waffen-SS. 2. Combination of weapons, eg especially Artillery andtanks infantry is a specialty of German Armies. So I don't think the Marines are better in it. 3. I would not rate any oft...

Re: Destroyers in the Pacific

I wonder how many oilers USN, KM and RN had let's say 1940 or 1941. As the KN had no plans to fight in the Pacific they don't need the logistics for the Pacific.

Re: German coastal and rail mounted guns

However Dora was never intended for coastal defence. IT WAS designed for fortress operations. So it was used to shell Sewastopol. Unfortunately the results were not as expected.

Re: H class Battleships

Lwd My Last Post refers to your statement that Germany was bankrupt in 1939. This could also stated to a lot of countries these days. The bureaucracy kept Germany running, when the NSdAp tried to influence everything in Germany. What could happen to countries led by amateurs, you can study by countr...

Lwd You brought in the M1. And I noted that it is good example of superior American technology. I asked the ques how many maintenance is necessary? As you didn't provide data , I'm shure you don't have any. Nevertheless one. ould argue that there is an evolution line from Tiger and Panter to the M1,...

Take into accounts that Hitler trusted his General's until the first winter in Russia. and be shure he wouldn't have ordered a war against Russia w/o the advice of his commanders. All were well aware of Brest-litowsk
