Re: Pearl Harbour and other ships

What puzzles me is that pictures of the stern of Titanic seems to suggest that water pressure forced through the stern resulted in its almost total destruction, whereas the bow looks relatively intact although crumpled from impact with the sea bed. Bismarck of course was of a much stronger construc...

Re: Hoods bell

Although I do understand the sentiments of those who wanted it left alone back then, what a memorial to Repulse that could have made in the right and proper place, where it could truly contribute to preserving her memory, and to symbolically bring home all those who perished. Being left there, wide ...

Re: Hoods bell

Hi Paul, Hmmmm.... seems that it's pretty standard shape as far as RN bells of the time went. Comparing to Prince of Wales' bell, to me, they are of similar basic shape except for Hood's special inscriptions. The bell was originally on her predecessor, the predreadnought battleship: Shape maybe, but...

Re: Hoods bell

Thanks for the confirmation Paul. Was just wondering / a bit surprised is all at its 'plainness' so to speak, given it is off 'the mighty Hood' after all.

Re: Hoods bell

No offense meant, but is that photo really of the bell that David Mearns recovered from the wreck of Hood?

I only ask as it looks awfully plain for a 'main ships bell' compared to the only other main bell from a ship of that era that I have seen.

Re: torpedoes and torpedo bulges

Found elsewhere exactly what I was looking for. Save these are on an Ozzie boat, HMAS Burnie. The other pic is mine from Exeter wreck, and the object in question has a concave 'rear' with wires hanging out, so it sure aint no 'gas bottle' as some know-it-alls have suggested. :-) So I believe it may ...

Re: torpedoes and torpedo bulges

Thanks DM, but videos are no good to me. I need an image to place in a survey report of mine to compare/ place next to a photo I took of what we believe is a torp warhead (no body) we found wedged under the port torp tubes on HMS Exeter wreck (before it all disappeared to the bloody salvors that is)...

Re: torpedoes and torpedo bulges

Gents, does anyone have a photo of a British torpedo, any Brit torpedo, that may have been on a British ship circa 1942?

What I am specifically looking for is a Brit one that shows the 'nipple' that can be seen protruding from the 'nose-cone' of some torps (of various navies).

TIA
