HMS Exeters fore guns angle of arc

Hi Gents, Having been queried a few times re the accuracy of the fore-gun angles on the painting I had commissioned after we discovered the wreck of HMS Exeter back in 2007, thought I'd post the following which shows just what an acute angle the fore guns could train aft on. Schematic from official ...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

Hey Jose, re your email to me and the reason for double posts. You say once a post has been 'up' awhile you can no longer edit. Well the above 'edit' was attempted within one minute of posting the previous post, and the 'edit' (a one word spelling correction) still ended up as a second post! What gi...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

One of the things that I keep overlooking was the damage to the ship's side from the 1100lb bomb hit. Apparently this hit burst on the MAD and splinters blew numerous holes in the ship's port side . It may have been this flooding that caused PoW to capsize to port (Which was also thought likely by ...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

Double post. Removed Hmmmm, not sure whats happening here but no matter what I do I cant seem to remove the double post. Even though I edit it an remove the text, and leave the above 'message', it just posts a new additional post, as opposed to to 'reposting the edited one with above comment. How o...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

Duncan re your following; Regarding the starboard torpedo hit aft, it seems likely that it was a shallow runner and hit the hull higher than the port side aft hit. No doubt PoW was down by the stern, but she was also up by the bow, and so the 2 torpedo hits forward show evidence that they were shal...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

That large(r) torp hole is on starboard side aft. The torp that is consider to have exploded close to the hull, but not actually hit it, was on port side just forward of aft main turret. Hence why many previous reports refer to two hits to port, but definitely not so. Belief is it detonated very clo...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

I'll just come back on board for a moment just to say one last thing and that is: It was very fortuitous that we did our survey's in the years when we did. Today, well some time ago actually, the 'key' to discovering that the outer port shaft was actually broken somewhere up the shaft tunnel - was r...

Re: Serious design flaws in King George V class Battleships?

Pardon for resurrecting this old thread and coming back on board, but just stumbled upon the last few posts again, so although had meant to comment earlier when I first saw them, what almost a years ago, some input is better late than never re following I suppose. So first to a comment by “Dunmunro”...
