Re: Target data
Nice reference from Thorsten too. Wonder how they knew black line "true" distance? Were both ships running on surveyed-in railway lines for instance? both ships were observed by shore "Langbasisgeräte". Accuracy of the Langbasisgeräte was significantly better then the usual range measuring devices ...

Re: Target data
Do you know what xx-Facher means? If I understand correctly the atleast one of the ships are moving according to the first document, any info on how fast they were steaming? Kind regards, Daniel xx-facher the 10 m RuM's(rangefinders) had 18 - 50 fold magnification only two ships Admiral Graf Spee(m...

Re: Bismarck Alternate Propulsion
... So maybe a Bismarck-heavy ship, longer and thinner (30m maybe?), with 2x4x35/38cm in order to fit (and save weight) 16x12MZu42/58 large diesels on 4 shafts for 144.000hp? With triple 15cm superfiring over the main turrets achieving the same 6x15cm broadside as IRL. Hopefully 30kts might be achi...

95mm is more incline to bend instead of spalling I think. to be precise MAD over magazines 100 mm (scarps 120 mm) Wh (Zeichnung Panzerabwicklung „Schlachtschiff F“ gültig für Panzerdicken, im Laufe des Baues geändert, Geheime Kommandosache) German homogenous armor plates possibly from from Tirpitz ...

Re: Bismarck's armor against long range hits
1) against 50 mm + 80 mm ther were several perforations on Scharnhorst(La Pallice) and Tirpitz (Tungsten)but no detonations the double impact on wheather deck and main armor deck obviously rendered all fuzes from 1600 lb armor piercing bombs into duds. 2) against 50 mm + 110 mm all bombs that hit br...

Re: Bismarck construction flaws
I always wonder the slop portion of bismarck's turrets is weard. Is it too light for 180mm at such an important place? whats the distance you expect a penetration. the forward 180 mm slope had a projected hitable area of maybe about 100 m² at 10 km. for Bismarcks guns the 50% zone of impacts at 10 ...

Re: Richelieu and Jean Bart
Decapping would obviously increase resistance, but by how much I'm not sure - so I'm not really sure how to judge it against against a single-thickness deck. the problem appears more difficult. and ist not only the effect of decapping one has to taken into account. If protection is increased or not...

Re: Richelieu and Jean Bart
I think to remember that on "Scharnhorst"'s triple turrets (whose guns were fired usually within the same salvo) the central gun fired first, followed (within 10 to 20 milliseconds delay) by the lateral ones. I don't know whether delay coils were implemented on Bismarck's too. Bye, Alberto Delay co...

Re: 38 cm shells
its the same.
but sometimes if you use muzzle energy, it may be confound with muzzle velocity and
weight of propellant charge is more intuitive to energy I would say.
