Re: Bismarck and the Brandenburgers

Investigating clandistine operations is always difficult to do. It is the nature of the thing. Carl Dönitz did try again using the Brandenburgers to perform a sabotage mission to Iceland in 1942. I have a document on that plan sent to me from Freiburg. Don´t forget, Carl Dönitz was translating Germa...

Re: Bismarck and the Brandenburgers

The missing Brandenburgers on the Bismarck mission belonged to the German Abwehr intelligence service. They were under the command of Wilhelm Canaris, from Abweher II, the 2. Kompanie, commandos speaking English, Portuguese and Frence and came from North Africa, UK and USA. Part of the unit was in D...

Bismarck and the Brandenburgers

There still is a big mystery in the Bismarck story concerning the count of the living and the dead. She had 2400 crew as to record, the living and the dead where 2249, that leaves me with 151 names missing from the acount. As I have indicated earlier She left Germany for the Reinubung with the crew ...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

Bismarck ran out of fuel prior to attacks on her from the Brittish, this is obvious. A battleship wihout her engines is a dead duck. RF is right, she left Bergen, Norway and was bound for Bergen, Norway. She was at her edge of radius og action when the Hood tragedy took place. She had used 55% of he...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

The fuel burn of Bismarck as indicated her at ca 44.4 tonns per hour at 29 kn gives a new perspectiv into the operation intended. From the shores of Norway to a position east of Greenland and north of Iceland to the point where the Hood went down is close to 2210 km in around 3 days. In order to mee...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

Thank you Tommy, When you have POW from the Krigsmarine, U-Boats translating german war material, I have second thoughts of it´s truthfulnes. This you will find in the book, " The Luftwaffe and the War at Sea 1939-45." I have a UBoat journal and a ship journal, where 4 Germans left the Icelandic shi...

Re: Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

I still think that the Bismarck story is not over yet. From Hr. Nilsson information on the fuel flow and max range at max speed we have Her at 7 day´s endurance. She was down in 10 day´s. The mission is 1. To be sailed form Germany via Norway to France or Spain, economy max speed, something like a 1...

Bismark´s endurance, fuel bunker and fuel burn.

Good morning all, I´m back again. It is known that She had 2knots over her R N fastest ship. The story goes that She was out there for a month to be. It is known that She had full tanks mínus the 200 tonns. She had 3 turbine engines, 138.000.- WPS to take her up to 29 Kn. Do you know how big the fue...

Yes, Karl is right, but Bismarck was part of the Krigsmarine together with the U-Boats. How come we can not have a fair discussion on the Bismarck hunt for ships in convoys just ahead and infront of the force with U-Boats in the death zone of both forces. I just don´t get this. One of the 3 surrvivo...

When and if we are to hounor the Bismarck fallen victems we should also hounor the fallen of the Hood. This was one and the same tragedy. A political disaster anyway. Mind you the Germans and the English are one and the same embassy in Reykjavík, Iceland. With that fact anything is possible among po...

U-93 and the Knight Cross.

Thank you Paul, good input, but in this mission the Kptlt. Claus Korth had still to hit the 50 þ mark on the hit of the Elusa., he was only at 49627.þ.t. With the many ships of the convoy for the many U-boats to follow, how come Bismarck was not in on the hunt, mind you this is before the Hood enter...

The Knight Cross to a deserter.

The U-93 is one a collision course with the Bismarck, following the HX 126 during the 22, 23. 24 of may, when making a 180 deserting the action. Why would Kptit. Claus Korth get the Knight Cross on the 29th of may, in absencia, south of Greenland and what happened to the HX 126 convoy. I don´t get t...

Bismark, U-93 and the ghost convoy.

It´s said that Good created the World in seven days and seven nights, but in may 1941 he took away the lives of 4200 men in just seven days and seven nights. It all started in may 1941, when the Bismarck and the Prince Eugen started on there commerce riding mission into the Atlantic on a heading str...

The Bismarck mission to it´s faith comes now to a new mystery stage with new information pointing to Adolf Hitler sending his personal/OKW/VIP Captain on a mission to Iceland in mars, 1941 to perform aufklarung for the OKW. Why would he do that.? Why, baypass Erick Raeder and the Krigsmarine special...

It was about to become a major defensive element in the defence of England and it´s convoys, America-Canada-England in april -may ´41. Two airfields about to be ready and a bigg base for ships in ,Bay of Whales, was ready f...
