Re: Naval fire support in Normandy

Gentlemen, I am in the middle of reading a book on D-Day by Stephen Ambrose (of band of Brothers fame). He maintains that the evidence on the remaining gun emplacements showed that even the heviest of shells had little effect on the incredibly thick walls, although the concussion of the busting she...

Re: Wikipedia - Word of Warning

The U boats lost 75% of crews but do not forget the death toll amongst the merchant navy. 35000 non combatant civilian merchant seamen died at sea. Apologies beforehand if i appear rude, but what is your point? Merchant seamen made valuable contributions to winning the war and many died in the proc...

Re: 70th Anniversary, sinking of the Bismarck

Operation Rheinübung started 70 years ago today. May the memory of all those who fought and died live on!

Re: A new "Sink the Bismarck!" movie?

What I am refering to is that I hope any remake of the movie will dwell more on the the pursuit and battles, attention to technical detail and the human drama rather than the almost obligatory political statement on the evils of Hitler and the Nazi's. The whole story of the life and death of Bismarc...

Re: Expedition Bismarck 2012

30knots,

I would agree with all your suggestions and would expand on what Cameron did by using a ROV to further respectfully explore interior spaces of the wreck.

Re: A new "Sink the Bismarck!" movie?

So what does everybody think of the screenplay.
Good job! A remake movie about the Bismarck is long overdue. My only hope (probably in vain) would be that any PC crap be kept out of it. Keep up the good work!

Re: Effect of bombs

I agree with Bgile. My Father was an FC in the USN and he said a near miss from a bomb could be almost as damaging as a hit as far as the hull of the target was concerned. My 2 cents!

Re: Now the dumb Jackass...

RF, If you really wanted to you could! Untold thousands of illeagals do it all the time, not mention the dead and those who vote several times. They make it really convenient as you commit voter fraud (did I say that?-silly me) by mail so you don't even have to waste any time standing on line. The r...

Re: Wikipedia - Word of Warning

I remember a Documentary on either Military Channel or History Channel about The Battle of the Atlantic. When they interviewed a gentleman who I believe was a member of Walker's crew he stated that they had that order and in one instance he had a German U-boat crewman's hand and was told to let him ...
