Re: Gun length in calibers

For example, Bismarck's 15 inch gun had an overall length of 52 calibers. It's correctly refered to as a 38cm/L52 gun. The distance from muzzle to breach is 48.5 calibers. That's right. http://www.kbismarck.org/photos/38cm-SKC34-DE-Rohr.jpg http://www.kbismarck.org/photos/38cm-SKC34-DE-Munition.jpg...

The Stuka's landing gear was actually marginal for carrier use. A little strengthening was probably necessary. The Ju-87 C had the whole fuselage structure strengthened indeed. http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/2833/luftwaffe/carrierborne/ju87c/ju87cn2.jpg http://www.geocities.com/pentagon/2833/luf...

I think the Stuka with its robust fixed landing gear could have been a good naval aircraft. Wasn't the twin-engine ME-110 too big to operate from a carrier?

I had the translated volumes of the series of Tirpitz and Scharnhorst published by Conway. A kind of poor-man AOTS. What is most striking is the little scale of the decks plans, you can´t see the details without a magnifier glass. And these plans are in German. The plans in those volumes have been ...

You are correct "RF", and for training duties the young recruits of the Marine-Hitler-Jugend were assigned their own Segelschulschiff, the "Admiral von Trotha". Does anybody know more about this sailing ship?

Captain Hank Rotherham - Bismarck

Captain hunted the Bismarck The Daily Telegraph Friday, December 20, 2002 Captain Hank Rotherham, who has died aged 95, was a restlessly adventurous naval officer, best known as the Fleet Air Arm observer responsible for setting in motion the hunt for the German battleship Bismarck in 1941. You are right Miro. The battle at the Denmark Strait may not be the largest nor the most decisive battle, but it is certainly one of the most famous naval engagements ever. I've just added it to the poll.

Re: Admirals

You know this is the German way usually to do things, following the procedures, despite the fact that the best General they had, Erwin Rommel, was known to be one guy not following them at all as it should be. But Adm Lutjens was neither Nelson nor Rommel, just himself, and did what it thought was ...

Oh, I see.
So, basically they just scanned the original document and put in book format, right? Are there any drawings, sketches, photos perhaps?

Thanks for your reply

I've just found it on Amazon.de:

http://www.amazon.de/exec/obidos/ASIN/3 ... ismarck-21

260 pages just about the hull of the Bismarck Class? I think it may be interesting. Has anybody ever heard of the author before?
