As far as I know, none of the survivors ever mentioned the presence of any cat aboard the Bismarck. A couple of months before Bruno Rzonca passed away in 2004, he was asked if there were any mascots aboard the ship, his answer was, "Nothing".

I've seen "The Poseidon Adventure" a few times, and I like the idea that a new version is being made. Gene Hackman was great in the original movie. One of my favorites is "The Last Voyage", 1960, with Woody Strode who also played "Draba" in "Spartacus" the sam...

Hello everyone, Both British and Americans already had a relatively good detailed set of Bismarck plans by September 1941. Whether these plans were based on their own evaluations, or obtained from the Soviets, I can't say. However, I doubt the Soviets would supply anything to the Allies before June ...

Marcelo, Try looking for photos of the USS Texas (BB35) during her major modernization overhaul in 1925-1927 at Norfolk Navy Yard. At this time the ship was retrofitted from coal burning to fuel-oil, and the original 14 boilers were replaced with 6 fuel-oil boilers. I couldn't find any photos myself...

Re: Photo enigma

Hello, Here is a photo that may bring a new light to this issue. http://www.kbismarck.com/photo259.jpg It has been sometimes erroneously described as being taken on the day of commissioning, 24 August 1940, but that is not the case since the top of turret "Dora" is dark. I would bet it is ...

I really don't know when exactly was the photo taken, but it is for sure 1941 since the Swastika is painted over the deck. Since there is a music band in the background maybe they are celebrating Hitler's birthday on 20 April 1941? In any case it seems to be a big occasion. On this other pho...
