Re: Famous picture showing Bismarck down by the bow

Most people say that the Bismarck is down by the bow on that picture. Yet if you look closely you will see that right behind the end of turret Bruno, the waterline literally has a bends up towards the bow. I rather think that the Bismarck is sailing through a rough sea, went past a wave and is hitt...

Re: 80th Anniversary of Operation Rheinubung

It has been 80 years since the Bismarck sank at 1039 hours on 27 May 1941. The end of her brief career foreshadowed the passing of the battleship era, of which she was a technological triumph and upon which she and her brave, fallen crew left an indelible mark.

Sorry, I thought I finished adding all the English subtitles, but it seems I didn't.
I will do that as soon as posible.

Herr Nilsson wrote: Sun May 02, 2021 1:38 pm "Seitenhöhe" (side height) = 15 m) is measured without hull plating.
The maximum side height of the hull should then be:
22 mm (bottom plating) + 15,000 mm + 50 mm (upper deck) = 15.072 m., right?

Re: water line

CWL is 9.50 m. Obviously the waterline ends slightly above 10.5 m. It's just my speculation that the draught on construction displacement (9.522 m) could possibly explain the difference. Marc, Why the difference of 22 mm between the Construction Waterline and the Construction Draft? Is that because...

Re: bismark-after torpedo hit

Interesting discussion you guys have here. One thing that you have to consider when trying to steer in reverse is that Bismarck's stern was already structurally damaged by the torpedo hit (it eventually broke away during the sinking). Steering in reverse for several hours, even if at a very low spee...

Re: Führer Naval Conferences

All the Germans had to do was have a friend buy a copy of the News Chronicle newspaper for 28th May 1941, price one penny. I have a facsimile copy which mentions most of the ships and their Captain's names. British newspapers may have been available in other neutral countries including the USA and ...
