Re: Nethy Bridge, Scotland
Rob, I am very glad you are well. I know that you had conversations with M-R that must remain very private forever. Sometimes, memories must also go "down with the ship". I am struggling now with memories and facts of my father that I am not sure I wish to transmit to my grown children.....

Re: Nethy Bridge, Scotland
Don't trust my interpretation of what Rob says ..... I am just guessing. "überhaupt" has a lot of meanings that are not in the dictionary.

Re: Nethy Bridge, Scotland
I think what Rob means is that M-R was a "born" survivor ("überhaupt" meaning here "without a doubt"). Even surviving as a POW showed it ..... when he had to worry about danger from his own comrades as well as the enemy. He made the best of his confinement and survived,...

Re: Blohm+Voss Shipyard changes owners
I know nothing about economics, but the Arab and Chinese economies and politics don't look very stable to me even though they are in good shape at the present.

Re: Blohm+Voss Shipyard changes owners
The sale is in its final stages and will be signed this months. Whether the Arab financial wizards will survive for long is not certain either as far as I can see. Bremerhaven Lloyd-Werft is also up for sale....... http://www.ftd.de/unternehmen/industrie/:schiffbau-blohm-voss-verkauf-an-araber-vor-a...

Re: Blohm+Voss Shipyard changes owners
Actually, it is a very serious problem that has to do with technology control and transfer and the possible inability for a nation to build its own naval vessels without interference or the leaking of information. The USN it trying desperately to maintain at least a few US shipyards in order to pres...

Re: The German Dreadnought Kaiserin
Is it just me or is the Kaiser class the forgotten class of the HSF? By that I mean I can always find plenty of pcitures on-line of the Badens, Konigs, Helgolands and Nassau's but for some reason a google search of the Kaiser class doesnt get much of a return :? Try "Kaiser Klasse". The f...

Helmuth Brinkmann Quote
Does anyone know the source of the original statement that Captain Brinkmann of the "Prinz Eugen" apparently made shortly after the "HMS Hood" exploded? „Ruhe in den Telefonen. Denkt daran, daß auch in England auf jeden Mann eine Mutter wartet!“ “Silence on the telephones. Rememb...

Kriegsmarine and Royal Navy Teacher Scale 1:500 USN Training
H.A. Framburg of Chicago was one of the makers of teacher scale (1:500) and identification (1:1200) models for the USN. Other major manufacturers were Comet Metal Products and South Salem Studios; Bessarabis and van Ryper were also good model makers, but it is said that they could not meet the USN’s...
