Re: Bismarck off Norwegian coast 21 May 1941

i must say not really to your question RF, but it does show the hull stripes painted out with only the false bow wave remaining.

Also, the barrels of the 15" look dark gray.

Re: Bismarck Turret Installation Photos

Re: BS speed - last battle

What would be the approximate diameter of this circle, if Bismarck steamed at 20 knots with the jammed rudder ? Interesting point from Bgile about the British fuel situation. Were they (the Bismarck crew) confident of another 'Hood' if they steamed at 7 knots to stabilise the gun platform ? I would ...

mmm, i seem to have been the only poster on this thread for the last x posts. Does nobody have an interest if this is one of the Tirpitz boats or not ? I found the ad/pic and thought, grey sides, black underhull, as 'worn looking' as you might expect, three bladed prop. etc Could it be ? I've looked...

4.1"/10.5cm AAA guns

Does anyone have any ideas as to why the surrounding armour/housings for these guns seem to be all missing on the wreck ?

Thanks for any replies

tommy thanks for your comments Bismarck, already hit once in the stern, an underwater hit AFAIK, which i understand has a greater destructive effect, still resulted in all three shafts functioning correctly. Now i'm thinking about the damaged rudder, a charge from above, in the dry , just above the ...

Given the gravity of the situation, even with water surging in and out of the torpedoed compartments, one has to wonder why blowing the thing off was not done.

The ship was destined Northward otherwise, by the seas, weather etc.

As was the case.

Jose, Thanks very much for that. I hadn't read that interview with Bruno Rzonca before as well. Quite something. Gerard, Seems to me the plane was jettisoned well before the final battle (don't know much about this), hence it wouldn't be anywhere near the debris field of the sinking, assuming that's...

Correct Bgile, The machine shop on most vessels i have been on tends to have an extraordinary knack of fabricating almost anything to resolve a situation. I'm still of the opinion that compressed air line damage could be repaired quite quickly, standard fittings, piping etc. Of course we don't know ...
