Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Forgive me Alberto but the conduct of a person is entirely different to the conduct of an inanimate object such as a battle. Just to point out an inanimate object cannot be judged as to it's behaviour as it is inanimate. I'm afraid this is a fact. The phrase used is I believe conduct of the b...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto thanks for that, the original scan was too unclear but that helps a great deal. So we know from correspondance in 205/10 that the M08524/41 preliminary report is also referenced. We also have mention of the discussions between Churchill and Leach etc regarding the conduct of the ac...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, thank you for posting the Alexander signature to be honest I'm not sure the signature is AVA, the upward rising pen mark at the end of the signature does not match Alexander's finishing A. Obviously I have only seen the copy shown here and it is probably of no significance in any ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Thank you Antonio, I agree with you that the preliminary report was seen as it is mentioned in handwriting at the top of the page on document 332 19th September 41 (ref "See M08524/41' which equates to C in C preliminary report). The date of the Barnes letter was 10th September which wou...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All,

May I ask Antonio am I correct in thinking you believe that Pound suppressed the preliminary report from Tovey?

This enabling the other reports to be gathered and prompted by Tovey and allowing the intentional alteration of the despatch.

Best wishes

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All

I'm afraid Alberto we are possibly coming to a few premature conclusions?

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto and Antonio thank you for those excerpts of the letter. It shows that we are correct in thinking that the full dispatch was seen by the board members, as we know Alexander was on that board. It also shows the full dispatch was used in the decision making process. This added to the ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, there is no need to feels sorry, yourself and Antonio tell me that the decision came down to two incorrect points in a dispatch. After having seen Roskills evidence that Toveys dispatch actually included 9 appendices which included all the relevant correct reports maps track chart...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, thanks yes the points you make are very valid, the board consisted of quite a number of people who would have had to read the whole dispatch to make any judgement. We are suggesting that the whole decision is based on two incorrect points. Both points are covered in other reports ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All, Hi Alberto, to start with please do not take this as argumentative or denial. Im trying to get to the facts of the matter, and I would suggest that the statement to Cunningham is directly related to Leach breaking off the action. It was sent to one of the members of the board. It is relevant...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto thanks for the answer. The relative facts of the case could I presume be raised and discussed at any board meeting conviened to discuss certain actions and reports. Im not sure we can assume that there was any order to stick to only certain information. The Board had always consist...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Antonio thanks for the printing of the letter, it was hard to make out on screen as are they all. May I ask a few questions? Notes 1) Is there a signature on the 19th September document? 2) If this is referencing the outstanding issue of a previous letter dated June, is it not this issue t...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All

Hi Alberto, my mistake no problem, when you put "avoid such title for Pound" I didn't quite know if you'd misread it or I'd misread you.........but I'd misread you!

Thanks

Best wishes

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All, Hi Alberto, I think I did say that any such action is counter productive and refrain from doing so myself. But I did laugh at the 'side' jibe so thank you. However I think Wadinga is refering to the nature of the report which is pusillanimous, ie implied by Pound that PoW action was showing ...
