Re: "Graf Spee" Album

He noted that photographs of Hitler appeared throughout the ship and that, on entering the wardroom, every officer formally saluted one. or Yes, that was even the standard for us elementary school children when entering or leaving the schoolhouse. We had to salute the picture, too, or get ready for...

Re: Bismarck 1/100 initial structure

Paper-modelling is an art form in Germany and some other parts of Europe.... even at the 1:1250 scale there are fanatic paper modellers. Others use matches or toothpicks. I agree with you that to build a real scale model you need to use all kinds of materials to get it perfectly right. http://www.fl...

Re: "Graf Spee" Album

Back to Langsdorff.....looking at all the other hand salutes, his is in the old style as I pointed out before. It may mean something.

PS:
lower ranking person salutes first......
. Yes. We even had to salute the general/flag officers' cars even if they were not in it...... :D

Re: "Graf Spee" Album

Exactly what Keitel Luetjens are discussing is impossible to say since neither left any kind of written or anecdotal evidence You are right. The only entry about this visit in the war diary of Admiral Lütjens is: "5.5.41 0930-1700 Aviso 'Hela', Gotenhafen. Besichtigung der Schlachtschiffe &quo...

USS NEW YORK - LPD 21 Commissioning

http://www.ussny.org is an interesting private webpage about the new USS NEW YORK. But I ask myself, ........ why does a modern warship need a ceremonial silver tea service in this day and age? I received an email from http://www.ussny.org : “Opportunity to Be Part of Naval History Through Tiffany &...

US Navy Training Ships?

Most US maritime and naval colleges/academies seem to have some sort of training ship, e.g., EMPRIRE STATE, STATE OF MAINE, USNA yard patrol craft, KINGSPOINTER. Question: Does the US Navy have a designated training/school ship now ? Old School Ships: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:United_Sta...
