Re: H class Battleships
I wonder whar kind of banana republik Germany and the KM was. Ship H was properly designed and orderd. Same aplied to shipI. This would not happen when financial recources would not be available. German bureaucracy was always world class. ... That would explain why Germany was almost bankrupt in th...

Re: H class Battleships
...It is a historical fact that there was a design for an extremely powerful H class battleship. No argument there. It is a historical fact that Germany possessed the resources and the trained labor to build at least one of them, even if some sacrifices had to be made elsewhere (or that there was p...

Re: H class Battleships
Germany had a very constrained economy in the prewar period. Not just financially by the way but resource wise. If you build additional battleships the money and resources have to come from somewhere. correct, and cancelling useless projects would have helped. Indeed but the question is which if an...

Re: German shipyards from before WWI thru 1945
Indeed it would have been but I didn't have the time to search for them. An indication that he was having problems would have been enough for me to do so that he hasn't either indicates to me that he didn't have such a problem or didn't consider it worth trying.

Re: H class Battleships
I am not underestimating the cost of the ships. I am positing a slightly different set of historical circumstances, in order to consider what the effect of maybe 2 H class battleships could have had upon a slightly different world order. Or better yet, one H class and one H class hull modified and ...

Re: H class Battleships
... LOL, and of those 93 divisions more than half of them didnt even fire a shot. I'd certainly like to see sources for that. Of course whether or not they fired a shot doesn't mean that they weren't involved in the invasion. anyway, this is all irrelevant since I dont see any need to reduce the si...

Re: German shipyards from before WWI thru 1945
I believe there are a couple of threads over on the axis history forum with details on shipyards of the various powers. Might be a good starting place.

Re: H class Battleships
on my previous posts I put just an example from where the funds might have come and you did you even bother to comment. Didn't I? I suggest you look a little closer. There is for instance a serioius question as to whether or not they could have used those funds. Even if they could have used them th...

Re: H class Battleships
Read at least the first few chapters in Wages of Destruction and then we can discuss it. I know that book what do u want to discuss about it? It makes it rather clear that the German economy didn't have a significant amount of slack in the period we are discussing. My impression is that if the Nazi...

Re: H class Battleships
lwd asked, how do you pay for additional ships? well the first thing that comes to my mind.... cancel all Nuremberg constructions and other Nazi arquitectural projects all over Germany (let Hitler live in the old chancellery), and there you have plenty of money. lwd, you are an intelligent person a...

Re: H class Battleships
Except you can't really do that unless you can put them in context and that means also considering what the other impacts of building them would be both on Germany and other nations. In a world where there's no Great Depression and the reparations are significantly less do you even have a Nazi Germ...

Re: H class Battleships
Ok how do you pay for them at that point? The German economy was rather severely constrained during that period. The same way that Schacht managed to finance the rest of German re-armament in the mid- 1930's ''Constraints on the German economy'' needs to be qualified. Germany still had some one mil...

Re: Tirpitz shelling New York
If Tirpitz has broken out US battleships in the area are likely to have an ammo loadout consistent with a potential ship on ship engagement. Tirpitz on the other hand is on a raiding mission. If it's combined with a shore bombardment mission then just what her loadout is may become signficant.
