: A naval understanding Hitler would had started WWII in 1943 instead of 1939, time that would had given the Germans many powerfull surface units + aircraft carriers + U-Boats that could level in their favor the Battle of the Atlantic (I don´t believe the British would seize that extra time because...

Nelson was able to win because he knew exactly what he was doing and was prepared to take risks to achieve his plan.

As a further aside to Karl's note about misconceptions about the SS it is also a fact that some Germans convicted of war crimes had no connection with that organisation. One of these was Helmuth von Ruckteschell - who disliked Nazism on religous grounds, but was still convicted of war crimes commite...

There is also the point that Bittrich, as far as I am aware, was not implicated in any war crimes, his is a name I have come across elsewhere - Arnhem.

Warspite and Hood both had very long service records, Warspite was always in situations her commander and firepower could handle. Unlike Hood who was drawn against Bismarck.

It is also unfortunate that on this side of the Atlantic there are covert political pressures that are seeking to erase this memory in favour of ever increasing European political union, in the belief that certain countries sensitivities may be upset.

I think that POW only took the lead as a scout for the flasgship in much the same way Lutjens put PE ahead of Bismarck, albeit Holland only did it temporarily. It doesn't appear that Leach intended to take permanent station against Hood.

Apart from Jutland the High Seas Fleet achieved very little in WW1, the ten fleet units in WW2 collectively achieved far more, not least in taking pressure off the U-boats. Again, I was not speaking about HSF perfomance at all; I was talking about Raeder psychological disposition, about the way he ...

Re: Radar and messages

Ciao Rf and all, I suppose you have noticed also the fact that PoW tryied to take a lead position just before the engagement started. Was that ordered ? Was it a Capt. Leach initiative ? We will never know probably. Very good discussion,... I like it. Ciao Antonio :D What is the source for this cla...

Re: Radar and messages

Ciao Rf and all, So it seems that Hood/Holland did realize that Bismarck was second in line before opening fire, ... on their own too. But in this case something doesn't match here,.. very obviously, .. but nobody asked for an explanation and for many years the readers have been left on the wrong b...
