The hilfskreuzer were not designed to fight real warships, certainly not above 6 inch guns level. They would both be sunk in minutes, unless they could get Cornwall into point blank range and with total surprise. Even then the example of Kormoran/Sydney ambush wouldn't work as even here the German r...

Do you think that if the German Fleet Commander had been Admiral Wilhelm Marschall instead of Admiral Gunther Lutjens, that the conduct of the German breakout would have been different (more aggressive)? Consider: 1) Would Marschall have been content to be shadowed by Suffolk - at the initial encoun...

What if Hood hadn't blown up?

All the discussions on the Denmark Strait battle have taken the sinking of Hood as read. But how would the battle have developed if Hood hadn't blown up? Could Hood and POW eventually use their two to one superiority in capital ships to sink Bismarck? Remember that Admiral Holland also had a destroy...

The admitedly fictional account of the destruction of POW is interesting, but there are some factual errors and logistical misunderstandings which makes this version of events impossible. Consider: 1) POW disengaged at 06.13 and not around 06.06 2) Hood and POW had a destroyer escort which would hav...
