Re: Wake-Walker : To engage or not to engage ?

Hi All Hi Alberto, you're entitled to your opinion and as I say take it up with the staff college, tactical School and Roskill as if you read the paper he was in agreement (They give Suffolk as 10nm distant and Norfolk 15nm at 02.30?). Roskills question was if Holland had signalled his intent to CS1...

Re: Wake-Walker : To engage or not to engage ?

Hi All Hi Alberto, no they based their assessment on the cruiser positions at 02.30 when a cyphered message from Holland would have been received and deciphered. Again we have no evidence that a) Wake-Walker was meant to engage, his tactical role seems to have been only to follow and flank mark (as ...

Re: Wake-Walker : To engage or not to engage ?

Hi All You have not yet seen my map as it is not complete and all done by hand. Once completed and looking good I would be happy to post it. Once BC1 was in sight I would guess any movement would be important? Again you seem to know the inside workings of Wake-Walkers mind, his tactical role was to ...

Re: Wake-Walker : To engage or not to engage ?

Hi All Hi Alberto happy New year! I've used PoW plan 4 and Pinchin Norfolk track and both 220 and 230 match ok for me. As discussed at length the strategical map is a small scale map but each person can use what they wish I'm sure you agree. Again we don't know what movements Bismarck made, we know ...

Re: Wake-Walker : To engage or not to engage ?

Hi All Happy New Year to all. Just to clarify Wake-Walker never faced any question as to why he did not engage Bismarck during the morning action so any supposition that he should is opinion. PoW salvo chart gives Bismarck's course as 212° I believe? This is an example of misjudged course, Suffolks ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, I'm afraid it is another phrase open to interpretation, to press home the action in my personal opinion would generally mean to make a decisive attack, to inflict real damage on your opponent, to press any damage/action home. This is what confuses me about the comparison with Trou...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Antonio, sorry for the delay very busy at the moment with Christmas approaching rapidly, as I guess are we all! I also guess your remark that 'somebody' realising the CM threat was real may be me? Again a little unfair as it was this 'somebody' who actually decided to go and find this lett...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Antonio, this is just a few thoughts on your post above, not a criticism or an over write. As the person who discussed the specific threatened charges and if a conviction could actually be achieved and also visited the Churchill Archive and posted the Tovey letters and their reference, I t...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto page 51 I believe. Thank you for the heads up on that forum subject. I see your last point as regards the 'turn onward' it was not at Hoods loss, therefore I apologise for my assumption that it was something to do with that. However as you initially wrote he did not say there were ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, I have found the 3/5 guns message dated the 27th May and it refers to the guns in action as it includes the phrase Y turret would not bear. Is this the message you refer to? It was discussed that 3 guns may have been in action, ie firing, or 5 guns being capable of being fired in ...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Hi Alberto, The first 24/5 message from PoW to CS1 states A and B turrets in action Y turret 2 guns in action ie at that moment in time. This concurs with his report of 4th June see below. The second 24th May message at 10.07B from PoW to CS1 and CinC HF gives 9 main guns in action at that ti...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All Alberto, for a great deal of people things are not resolved. I am aware that for you they are, and I accept that. I presume I was correct that the 3 and 5 gun signal was about the Hood explosion and not the withdrawal? However you are correct this discussion is the CM threat. The threat was a...

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All

Just to add, the trajectory of the CP hit the HACS tower hit the hull hit found in dry dock below the waterline and the funnel hit all came from off the bow. This would denote PoW was hit before any manoeuvre to break off the action.

Best wishes

Re: The Court Martial for the Denmark Strait

Hi All I hope that my post from the William Daniels notes helped, it is important as he was a first hand observer of the operation and of the mood in the war room and who exactly criticised whom. Dear Antonio, Again if you have the belief that people are trolling or that once you have posted somethi...
