Re: Less seriously torpedo damaged Bismarck
Four candidates for the Channel dash instead of three... Um... the whole point of Operation Cerebus was to get the surviving surface combatants back to German waters, only after Bismarck's sinking and Hitler's ranting of her loss that heavy warships were no longer allowed on forward deployments. I ...

Re: USS New Mexico Delivered Ahead of Schedule
Well, the New Hampshire was the first of the new Block III version of this Virginia class.

I notice that one of the new X Planes on the stern are visible, is it just me or is it slightly curved upwards?

Asymmetric Propellers
I came across the term Asymmetric Propellers in relation to a new class of SSN's... the Chinese Type 093 if I must be specific... and I didnt completely know what to make of it. They mentioned it was seven bladed, but then why not just say that and not include the "Asymmetrical" part? What...

Heavy Warship Missile Conversions
I just feel very intriuged by this subject and would like to open a thread about it. The fact that USS Hawaii almost was converted saddens me very much... considering she was already so far into her construction. Same for BB-66, USS Kentucky, which ended up being scrapped for parts for fast oilers. ...

Re: Less seriously torpedo damaged Bismarck
So in this scenario Bismarck gets closer to Brest... but the Royal Navy still catches up. In the midst of the fighting Bismarck gets beaten into a pulp.... as she did... but U-Boats and Stukas intercept the RN before they can leave the scene. Lets imagine that what happened to PoW in the end happens...

Re: Nuclear powered Battleship?
1. I should have known that. E=MC^2.... duh! 2. The fact that there is a projectile moving that fast through the barrel and the air in the barrel means that the plasma created by the friction burns the lining and bore of the barrel. Very little of the electromagnetic energy is transfered to the proj...

So a 3in railgun would have the same heat problems as a 16in one?

Re: Nuclear powered Battleship?
Thoretically I believe the max velocity of a em gun is around .1c. 1. Point one "C."? I'm sorry for my ignorance about more advanced theories through velocities and other physics subjects, I'm taking that class next year. 2. Does the heat exchange into the barrel also follow the cubic for...

Re: "New" HMS Prince of Wales sinking analyzes
Yeah they were... but then again at the rate they were spitting those things out was enough that any production method they used would prove to be fairly unreliable. Though I must admit that the modular construction probably did help in all respects. But back to the subject. Bismarck was welded. Bis...

Re: What if the South would won the Civil War?
I live in the south. Due to the long time since the ending of slavery, many people here have developed a slightly less racial standpoint... though many do still keep their racial family traits. I am strong to believe that if the Confederate States had won out and become a solitary nation, the leader...

Re: "New" HMS Prince of Wales sinking analyzes
I am suddenly intruiged by the fact that Britain was using riveting techniques even by that point in time, and especially with their new battleships. Did they not have welding technology (I think about this and then remember the US Navy had welding by that point)? And did they not realize that rivet...

Re: Nuclear powered Battleship?
1. Have whatever sonar assets you have give you a general bearing and fire a barrage on a path straight towards the thing! The supercatitation bubble resulting from it would be enough to damage whatever electronics the little cretin has. 2. Another point I want to bring up, is that the Board Evaluat...
