I have sent several commentaries on this thread which have not appeared, so this is just a test to see if the system is working properly.

Re: How close was the final battle?
I believe there are two main issues here. One is that for much of the engagement Bismarck seems to have been facing opponents on her quarters. This represents a more difficult than average fire control solution as one must simultaneously adjust for pitch and roll, i.e. the component of the two is la...

Sorry to be dumb, but there are a lotta battleship books out there. I'm drawing a blank. What book is this, exactly?

Yes. A good deal of the discussion would first have to be devoted to exactly how one might define a "battle-cruiser" in the first place...

Re: Tracer shells question?
Well, I'm fairly certain that although most large projectiles COULD be fitted with tracers, these would be -- as is noted in the text -- primarily used in such things as target practices, etc. rather than in combat. Most target bullets were not equipped with dye loads, so if one is firing salvos, it...

Re: Tracer shells question?
This passage would appear, at least to me, highly imaginative -- basically 'purple-prose'... As others have pointed out, there is really little if any need for tracers for large projectiles as the point of impact is (usually) fairly clear visually and can be corrected by spotting. Tracers are only u...

You've obviously not seen all of the Cameron footage. I'll stick with my original assessment.

I've seen it all -- hours and hours worth -- and this looks very much like the James Cameron footage to me. Could be wrong, though...

Seems so. I can't access it either, and admit to be a bit skeptical about 'joining' it.

@ Spicmart: Thanks for your interest. The paper appears in the latest version (No. 2, 2022) of "Warship International", published by INRO the International Naval Research Organization, of which I am an editor. In that capacity, I'm limited in my ability to freely distribute copies in digit...

Re: New Bismarck/Tirpitz Book By Mssrs. Bonomi and Virtuani
During their discussions on this board, my recollection is that the two authors implied that they had specific detailed information which would prove that some of their contentions were, in fact, backed up by irrefutable primary-source documentation. The discussions revolving around these issues, pr...

Re: Range and Penetration Table for the 38 cm SK C/34 Guns.
The figures given in this German Document are certainly official, and appear to be the best that have survived. (I have not, as yet seen an official tabular range table for Bismarck's guns, though something probably still survives somewhere.) Many individuals have, over the years, converted these gr...

New Bismarck/Tirpitz Book By Mssrs. Bonomi and Virtuani
I understand that Mr. Bonomi and Mr. Virtuani have very recently released an Italian-language monograph on Bismarck and Tirpitz as part of the Storia Militare series. As some may recall, these gentlemen -- though no longer active here -- were once rather active members on this forum, during which pe...

Unfortunately, no actual data appears to be associated with your question, so no coherent reply is currently possible. Can you provide the figures you are concerned about?
