Have a look at my 1/350 Hood custom etch set ! (large pic)

2006 starts well, my etch set is finished. Here's a nice scan of my work. Now I only need to add the model. I intend to have detail pics indicating what part does what later.

in conjunction with other very expensive reference sources the expert will not be overly upset either
Yes they are... It's purely a beginners book. There is nothing new or particularly special about the AOTS volume. I think you'd be better of with the polish (AJ press) drawings.

I think it's Des Moines, she's moored at the Naval Inactive Ship Maintenance Facility (NISMF) in Philadelphia.

They are not. The Harhaus set contains better drawings of boats and launches and a few other details, while the Gally drawings are drawn better. If you want to build a large model, you might just as well buy both.

Parts of the how and why's I intend to collect here: http://ontheslipway.hamershof.com/index.jsp?CID=7 Far from complete, but it gives some explanation how to build small hulls. Not beginner stuff, but it's for the tips and inspiration. I like seeing models under progress, hence the site. Here are m...

Well, the Dutch ship modelers are just very patient. I'm building an 1/350 HMS Hood to go next to that Bismarck

Nice work, this is exactly the reason I started scratchbuilding my own parts. You may want to know (or perhaps, you really do NOT want to know) that Evergreen also sells 2020 Car Siding with a spacing of 0.5mm. Still time to build a new deck! For some interesting pics of another Bismarck in progress...

If you have dedicated boilers per shaft, loosing one boiler can result in problems. One prop on 75% and two on 100% results in some speed loss (though very small). To alleviate the power drop on one shaft, you need to drop in rpm, while the two other props will increase their design loading. I'm not...

That seems highly unlikely. In case of a single boiler failure, distributing steam of 11 boilers of three shafts generates infinitely less trouble than getting an uneven loading.

Nice models (also a lot)!

Hmm, I vaguely remember the shop as not having anything useful, so I guess you need to contact them and ask specifically. The model was large scale, and very well built.

I believe I've seen an excellent model of her in the Maritime Museum of Göteborg, Sweden. Blue aircraft, very interesting ship!

Although getting a turret out may indeed reduce trim (I misunderstood you on this point), her hull characteristics aren't changed much. The weight distrubution changed somewhat but in heavy swells isn't going to radically change the seakeeping habits of bow diving. Not only the bow, but more of less...

Maybe , but would if have solved the problem. I assume you mean not going to sea is. If the rangefinders are rendered ineffective by spray and the turret is frequently flooded, replaced it with a smaller turret does NOT solve the problem. Adding open Flak batteries is certainly very unpleasant and ...
