Re: Pom pom with director Mk IV vs Bofors 40mm with Mk 51

1. Seems like the pom-pom director is more similar to a non-disturbed line of sight director as per Friedman. This means that there isn't a reticle that provides a suggested aim off like a gyrosight, rather the correction from angular rates, range, are added directly to output of the director. But ...

Re: Pom pom with director Mk IV vs Bofors 40mm with Mk 51

The bes picture can find for a MkIV director from the front shows some kind of stabilised telescope, I have no idea how the CO can apply lead through that . I have a suspicion that the details are hidden away in some documentation that will never see the light of day... Hi! In the Mk14-Mk51 the lea...

Hi Marcelo, I'm not sure I understood your question exactly. During the translating into another language, there are always misunderstandings. (Fortunately this time we didn't have any back translations from Turkish into English - -) I am also not an expert in this metallurgical field of wea...

Regarding the construction and function of the Barrel brakes and pre-haulers by springs and piston cylinders of the 10.5 cm guns can be seen here on page 10 . Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?

For the second, I meant that the Norway gun has an upper and lower dumper, besides the lack of muzzle thickening. The Turkish gun has only a lower dumper and muzzle thickening. Regards Hi Marcelo, Regarding the different muzzle shapes of the two guns, we both agree. Regardingh your fourther comment...

MARCELO - !!! Please; - are you serious or are you kidding me? ( . . . or you have had one bottle “ Lequi Liquor “ to much? - :D - - ) The gun in Norway has no muzzle thickening but also a second bumper on top. The thickening at the muzzle had nothing to do with the recoil brake. So i...

Hello Marcelo, Basically, I am already convinced that both photos you posted represent a 10.5-cm Q.F. L/45 Gun-Barrel . Both photographers, Bayram Akgün and Nils Mosberg, have been dealing with this topic not since yesterday and are actually very credible when they make such a statement. In my opin...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?

Hi Holger. The only gun that we can be sure (because it was measured) to be a /45 is this one: https://i.postimg.cc/MKYBW7v0/2.jpg Then we have this one. It has no muzzle thickening, it is a monoblock gun, but it can be any other model, or even another calibre. I would like to see the markings in th...

Coming back to the original topic: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45? After further internal discussions with the, underrated author of the book: “ 10.5 cm S.K.C./1932 . . . . . SAGA“ The development of the 10.5 cm naval gun in the German army and navy from...

Bad weather sailing: turrets pointg to the sides

Hi guys! A common view, a warship sailing in bad weather with the guns pointed to the sides. Common knowledge says that this is done so the water would not poured into the turrets. But there would be a not so easily understood phenomena. Pointing the guns to the sides increases the so called moment ...

Re: Battleship Bismarck: A Design and Operational History

Do those weight measures normalize for differences in auxiliary machineries, differences in weight caused by differences in machinery layout stipulated to meet other requirements, such as compartmentalization and unitized arrangement? If not, then they don;t accurately reflect the raw weight effici...

Re: 3-shaft propulsion

I understand that Bismarck's port side and centre propellers rotated anticlockwise and the starboard propeller clockwise (looking directly at the stern from behind). Was this the optimal design or might it have been better for the middle propeller to turn in a contrary direction to those on the out...

Re: Differences between 10,5-cm (4.1") Krupp Naval guns S.K. L/40 and L/45?

As mentioned previously, the Turkish author of the post claims that this is a 10.5cm L/45 gun barrel. The author has done extensive research into the different guns and their locations in the Dardanelles fortifications. So for me it's very credible and serious articel. To be clear again; - I am onl...
