Re: Bismarck/Tirpitz = most powerfull European battleships
According to Jordan and Dumas the hit that penetrated the magazine hit at 33° according to damage analysis. JB received flooding through bombs prior to the hit and the resulting list seems to be the cause for such an angle rather than the extreme range needed. The angle was not measured, but it was...

Re: BISMARCK armor scheme = BADEN?
Although I'm loath to post here I will do so, since I met Thorsten some weeks ago and he shared some insight with me. Lets be clear, I speak for me, not for him. The admirality documents do not show, as far as I have seen them, that a spaced array is better that an aon scheme. They do show that it c...

Re: Preston: Worst warships of all time
You seem too imply that BS and VV were not considered then G&D say that the SoDak`s were the best treaty ships. That is not the case. The limit was simply ignored by the Italiens and Germans but they were still officially treaty ships and are therefore part of the comparison.

Re: Preston: Worst warships of all time
How about degrading Yamato and Musashi due to Shinano`s horrible damage control? Or is this case of an completely untrained crew (and still incomplete watertight integrity) not comparable to a green crew and an electrical problem as far as criticising the entire class is concerned? Both problems wer...

I have the book as well but not with me atm. There still is afaik no indication that this arrangement gave better firing solutions than others.

Re: Fuso V Queen Elizabeth
Afaik the 4 twin arrangement was only a German favourite according to G&D not a general one. It gave balanced firepower fore and aft but did not improve firing solutions.

Re: Preston: Worst warships of all time
Maybe you should reread G&D US Battleships Page 96, Karl, but since I have mentioned that twice before, I don't think you'll ever do that, maybe they are not considered experts in this special case...

1. American ''Liberal'' 2. Liberal Socialist 3. Social Democratic 4. Social-Liberal 5. Anarcho-Communist American Liberal is Nr. 1? :D I guessed Social Democratic would be more correct. So for American Conservatives, which differ greatly from what we call conservative here in Germany I should be an ...

Re: Iowa Class: Armor Protection
I would like to know where I ( or others) have ever disputed thath BS upper deck would initiate the fuzes of bombs and shells. G&D clearly consider the "heavily compromised" SoDak as the best treaty ship but you always choose to ignore things you don't like, Karl. There is your non int...

José: I Starting for the overall displacement and beam there are catches. Sorry, I don't understand what you are hinting at. Btw, imo R&R are good as far as British ships are conerned, but their opinions for foreign designs seem highly biased (e. g. british 15inch gun was the best battleship gu...
