Re: Bismarck and her contemporaries
Lutcha: Karl, read Tommy's comment, he is right, they did NOT use AP shells in these test firings. This article is very old btw and in some parts completely outdated. I will review the source and will advise on both of your comments, tommy and yours. About the outdate of it, I don´t know: it is old...

Re: Bismarck and her contemporaries
lwd: That's also a pre radar definition of long range. Bismarck's protection from her own guns is only a part of the puzzle when comparing to other battleships. But a that´s USN definition by 1945 when, according to you, the gunnery relied on RDFC. But don´t try to use anymore your rethoric tricks ...

Re: Bismarck and her contemporaries
Nathan Okun's results match well with the figures from the German tests, claiming the contrary is untrue. 38cm vs German KC: Gkds. 100: 20km 412mm 25km 335mm 30km 275mm Face Hard (EFF): 22k Yards (20116m) -> 15,7 inch = 398mm 28k Yards (25603m) 12,9 inch = 327mm 32k Yards (29260m) 11,2 inch = 284mm ...

Why is Willy Brandt a social democratic spy? Because of the Guillaume affair?

Re: Bismarck and her contemporaries
I'm just mentioning them because they are not as good as others give them for the superheavy shells. They are more in line with what you get, when you use Okun's programs. If I understand you correctly, the G&D tables give results closer to Okuns for the 16"/45 cal gun and the light weight...

Re: Bismarck and her contemporaries
Karl, have you seen the ranges, G&D give BS an IZ for non superheavy 16 inch shells?

Re: Bismarck against BB-57 South Dakota
Thanks Dave, this is exactly the kind of post that i dislike so much. I don't doubt for a moment that George Elder knows many many more about theses subjects than myself. But again we just get an overly hostile answer (not the for the first time) in which Okun along Bill Jurens and Brad Fischer (tha...

Re: Bismarck against BB-57 South Dakota
I fail to see any wrath in Bgiles's or lwd's posts when navweaps and it's content are challenged. But I notice that the people who are relying on it are called zealots again. Btw, I'm quite sure that Bgile and lwd have, as myself does, R&R and G&D as well. Navweaps uses much from G&D btw...

Re: Bismarck against BB-57 South Dakota
And so appears navweaps and combinedfleet into the discussion as a witch hunters displays the Bible in front of the acussed... Discrediting the works of Okun with mentioning some expert is not much of a proof and therefore the questioning is warranted. I have often heard such criticisms but the peo...

Re: Bismarck against BB-57 South Dakota
Was the Sherman really that crappy when you look at the weight? It was nothing special, but comparing an American medium tank with a German "medium" tank like the Panther is a little bit unfair since the latter weighted 15 tons more. If you want to match a Tiger II against something simila...

Re: Bismarck against BB-57 South Dakota
One should note, that for all her tons of armour BS did not a receive a good IZ in comparison. SoDak and Iowa had better ones. Thad they had much more powerful guns as well emphasized their advantages further.
