I've got Strunk's "The Elements of Style" within reach, perhaps I should re-read it. I usually hyphenate on feeling. That usually works.

Indeed, if a 2240 lbs and 2700 lbs shell meet, who'd win?

Just interjecting, but is the hyphen only present when "sloped-back" is an adjective? Example:

The armour was sloped back
The sloped-back armour

That's British armor of course.

And, at zero meters, Iowa's barrels can't rotate to Bismarcks turrets, due to obstruction of Bismarcks own turrets.

I've never hear of it, and I doubt any submarine is THAT secret. You know, they are paranoid in the submarine department... they won't tell you anything even though you really don't care! But this is more a proof-of-concept ship, it's not that silent and you can't go 35+ knots with it. Not much use ...

No, it exists. It's a magneto hydrodynamics drive without any moving parts, actually built into a test vessel called Yamato. About 95% engine, 5% ship, speed 7 knots. Wiki even has an article

Well, Hitler was an idiot. The gun was built and used against Russian ground targets. It required 2 railing tracks -side by side- to transport it.

Yes, I'm sure. It's the fight above Kithomer with Christopher Plummer at the helm.

This isn't off topic, as this topic is about going nowhere at all.

Building the actual ship is something quite different than sketching up a few drawings. I think the Germans should have concentrated on ships with two twin 380mm turrets on a 15,000 design protected against 6-8"shell fire

Note that applying darker shades at the far ends of the ship will enhance true length of the ship. Also, applying straight lines on a ship makes it easier to estimate its course. Bismarck's scheme wasn't very good actually, they did not use the conclusions of their own studies. neither did the Briti...
