I agree RF.
A cure for HIV or Cancer would be worthy of that title but not some inhospitable planet that would take Han Solo's Millenuim Falcon 560 years to reach

I can't really imagine a bunch of Kriegsmarine sailors pulling of such a stunt
I agree RF
Buggering about seems to be a British trait - you only have to look at holidays abroad (Spanish/Greek) and any loutish behaviour or trouble can, about 8 times out of 10, be laid at the door of British people.

Re: Battleship guns against land targets
Large calibre naval guns were great against Tanks - you didnt even need a direct hit - a near miss was enough to wreck one. I heard a tale where a Swordfish pilot claims he saw a 15 inch shell from HMS Renown demolish a row of houses like they were a pack of cards (I'm guessing it was the Genoa bomb...

Re: Was US participation in WWII superfluous?
Well if we assume Britain fell in 1940, were would Russia get theur arctic convoys to keep them supplied from? Where would the USA launch an invasion of western Europe from? - the Azores? Without the USA, Britain would lack the manpower and industrial might of Uncle Sam. Without Russia, Fritz has no...

Hi Djosser
The book I mentioned describes in good detail with some drawings, the 15inch hits Dunkerque recieved at Mers El Kebir.
Its well worth getting but it is a little pricey - The Dunkerque's were pretty nice ships
