The complete melt-down of discipline and morale, which came later (May 27th during British final charge) On which facts is this assessment ("complete melt-down of discipline and morale" during the final engagement) based on? On British interrogation of German survivors: "When interro...

Re: PoW readiness for active service
Fellow Contributors, We have often discussed that armour piercing shell hits are virtually invisible, McMullen didn't know he had hit Bismarck 2.5 times. How could Schneider know a hit had not detonated? None of his shells should "explode on impact". This i a very valid point, but again, ...

Re: PoW readiness for active service
Then I heard Schneider again: “Wow, was that a misfire? That really ate into him.” I'm not sure if I follow these discussions and there interpretations correctly. Anyway, the original german version is: "Nanu, war das ein Blindgaenger? Der hat sich wohl reingefressen" Which unambiguously ...

No, there was no "true story" demonstrated. Only a suggestion/model/scenario. We lack data to confirm if it is "true" or not.Alberto Virtuani wrote: ↑Tue Apr 23, 2019 8:31 pm (even when understanding that Antonio had demonstrated the true story): I don't know (and I don't care).

Re: That 05:21 turn
To me - as german reader and writer - it is a 7 without any doubt. But that is not the point. Given the fact that it is (rigthfully) deemed as unclear or not decided, everyone who is seriously interested in a historic reconstruction must of course consider his/her scenario as one out of many other p...

A&A then refer back to this recreation as proof that their interpretation of events is correct. Thus we have a completely circular logic to their thesis; This has been highlighted so many times. By now everybody should be aware of this, and, in my view, the only way to stop the spread of this c...

Re: PoW's gunnery VS BSM's gunnery
So far as effectiveness is concerned, I would again suggest the old 'Shots Per Gun Per Minute' (SPGPM) and 'Hits Per Gun Per Minute' (HPGPM) as something worth considering. Although at this stage, it's really difficult to tell what information of historical value might be extracted fromthese number...

Re: PoW's gunnery VS BSM's gunnery
Aside from the IMHO questionable methodology of Alberto's table. The RoF ist a measure of what? What does it tell us about what? It does not tell you anything about how good or bad a ship in a battle did. Everybody who believes that may also estimates the air temperature from the color of the sky. ...

Re: PoW's gunnery VS BSM's gunnery
Perhaps someone with a mathematical bent would like to explain why adding up the shells in all the minutes and then dividing them by the number of minutes is not an arithmetic mean. It is only by choosing to use different "relevant" periods for the two ships, that one can achieve the kind...

Re: PoW's gunnery VS BSM's gunnery
Trying to restore 'order in the court'... I assume, in rather broad terms, two proposals are being made, primarily championed by Mssrs. Bonomi and Virtuani. These are: a) That Mr. Bonomi's reconstruction of the Denmarck Strait action and associated timings, etc., though not perfect, are at least es...

Re: PoW's gunnery VS BSM's gunnery
I used the term "flat-earther" neither in a derogatory nor in a positive light. I use this expression to distinguish between two approaches: from facts to interpretation vs. from a desired outcome to creation and/or tweaking of evidence. In mathematical terms: from data to model vs. data p...
