Re: Battle report on the air raid on Tirpitz 3.4.1944

In these two drawings we can see the place of impact of all 15 bombs.
The black dots depict armor piercing bombs; the white dots high explosive bombs.

Battle report on the air raid on Tirpitz 3.4.1944

Hello everybody, It's been a long time without uploading anything new to the website. Here is the original German battle report on the air raid against the battleship Tirpitz on 3 April 1944. I haven't uploaded the whole document yet but hopefully I will do so in the next couple of days. Enjoy!! htt...

Re: Code Name of Tirpitz Operation

For those interested, I have just added the following page to the website:

http://www.kbismarck.com/naval-operations.html

I'm sure I have missed some naval operations and sorties, so feel free to remind me.

Re: Code Name of Tirpitz Operation

Wikipedia is wrong here.
"Sportpalast" happened on 21-23 February 1942, and has nothing to do with Tirpitz's March sortie.

Code Name of Tirpitz Operation

Hello, What was the German code name of the naval operation involving the battleship Tirpitz on 6-9 March 1942? This is sometimes referred to as Operation "Sportpalast", but "Sportpalast" was actually the transfer of the Prinz Eugen, Admiral Scheer, and escorting destroyers from ...

Re: Is this a Italian submarine?

I have checked some pictures and I believe you may be correct. The foredeck does indeed look like that of HMS Seal. The boat was captured by the Germans and served with the Kriegsmarine for a short time in 1941. They probably used a photo of the former HMS Seal in the book for propaganda purposes. T...

Is this a Italian submarine?

Hello all,
Maybe someone can help me. In the book "Krigsmarine am Feind" there is a photo of a submarine which is supposedly a German U-boat, however it doesn't look like German to me. Could this be a Italian boat?
Photo attached.

Re: 'New' Photo of Bismarck on the Elbe

Also, if I remember correctly there is a similar photo in Ballard's book. Yes, it's a small one on page 20 taken from the port side though, captioned "The Bismarck on her trials in November 1940" but I suspect that should be September. The one I was talking about is in the last page 232. ...

Re: 'New' Photo of Bismarck on the Elbe

Very nice photo of the Bismarck. Thanks for sharing. Its from 15 September 1940 down the Elbe, most likely before she collided with the bow tug Atlantik at 1658 hours. I have seen several other photos of Bismarck's starboard side on this day. Also, if I remember correctly there is a similar photo in...

Re: Was the battleship Bismarck really the best of its time?

to 2) I took this from the book "Battleship Bismarck- A Design and Operational History of William H.Garzke Jr., Robert O. Dulin Jr., and William Jurens (moderator of this forum), with James Cameron, page 43. There it says: "The conning tower roof plates were 220mm of KC armor, the sides w...
