Hi Karl.
The actor Jonathan Rhys Meyers who played Henry VIII is actually Irish.
I bet one or two of his family/friends teased him about playing an English Monarch (some Irish people despise the English)

Re: What happens after the battle
When Royal Sovereign was returned to Britain, the British sailors found the Russians had left the guns loaded.
Also, when Warspite was being repaired in Bremerton and it was time to replace the gun barrels, apparently they found the guns were still loaded from the Med

Re: Nicaraguan military invasion to Costa Rica
Off the top of my head, Nicaragua isnt one of the worlds richer countries so I dont believe they would want the expense of an invasion and possible international sanctions adding to their burdens.
And yes, isnt Costa Rica's security guaranteed or at least heavily supported by the US?

German 52mm WW1 gun
Hi all.
In WW1, The German navy mounted a 52mm (2 inch) gun as a secondary armament on its Emden sized light cruisers.
I assume that the designers considered this an effective anti torpedo boat weapon for its day.
Was it a successful weapon?

Re: Newsreel of KGV class
Yes she's certainly taking water over the bow in that shot - good idea to swing the quad turret to port to prevent it flooding.
Any idea which of the class it is?
The same site has Howe goes to Australia

Re: What New/Remake War Movies Are Needed?
Perhaps Hollywood could sell a film about Admiral Von Spee and his armoured cruisers Scharnhorst and Gneisenau The movie could start with the bombardment of Papeete then the battle of Coronel culminating in the British finally getting revenge at the Falklands? The film would need to be like Saving p...

Re: Top Ten List: Best WW2 movies
Saving Private Ryan was very realistic. I thoroughly enjoyed Enemy at the Gates The Big Red One (Lee Marvin) was pretty good too as was Tobruk (starring George Peppard). Whilst this doesnt count as its WW1 - The Blue Max was very enjoyable (Peppard again) And this isnt to be taken seriously but Kell...

Re: What New/Remake War Movies Are Needed?
Now I've had time to think, perhaps the story of SMS Wolf could be made into a film. There were one or two little escapades involving a lady aboard (she was taken prisoner after her ship was sunk) which should be juicy enough for hollywood to make them even juicer    in true movie ...

Re: KGv class with different guns
Whilst 14 inch was considered undergunned for a modern BB, I think that the mechanical problems (of the quads) suffered by the KG5 class are what really puts people off them. Had it not been for the problems, people would probably view it as a pretty decent naval weapon The 2700 lbs super heavy USN ...

Clint Eastwood was best as a maverick 1970's San Francisco detective (Dirty Harry) for me anyway
I couldnt imagine him playing Patton - He's too old now.
Perhaps a movie about HK Atlantis would be good but christ knows what Hollywood would put in it to "spice" it up?

KGV enjoyed good armour protection.
A heavier main battery would of course been welcomed but I dont suppose Bismarck would have sank any better or that North Cape would have been changed much

So where's the change Dave?
The change is that the politician screwing us wears a blue rosette and not a red one
