Re: ---LCS---

I was poking around on this subject while the Forum was down and I found this: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/f/f1/USS_Independence_(LCS_2)_building.jpg/800px-USS_Independence_(LCS_2)_building.jpg The description says this was taken in March of 2007. Looks like the General Dynam...

Re: BS speed - last battle

good point aboit the director but if Bismarck was on an unconrtollable course wouldnt every salvo be like aiming at a target first time? Likelyhood of first time hits will be very small I think :negative: Yes, for both sides (although first time hits are not very common). If there is a tactical edg...

Re: BS speed - last battle

 Hmmm... Good point, although I think it would have been better to be moving around partially blind rather than being able to see and having a quarter of the time to destroy the enemy before they start holing you up  But yes, Lutjens was probably thinking about the gunnery aim (athough...

Hey, not to be pushy, but now that the new forum is up and running, could we maybe install a chatroom?

Sincerely,

Re: BS speed - last battle

 Now that I think about it again, that seems very, very strange. Was there shaft damage, or was Lutjens saving fuel for the return trip to Germany  Bismarck would have probable lasted longer if she had been at higher speed due to the circling the jammed rudder would cause

Re: New forum is up and running!

Hmm...
Like the other one better, more user friendly. This one is not as easy to write posts, and there are no emoticons. But that is just one man's vote.

Paul, Nice pictures. I get your point, if a French sub was in the immediale area (not in the harbor) I am sure it would have had a fun time with all the nice, big, juicy targets just outside  I forgot the Dunquerkes were really Pocket BB's, they did not have the 15in (it was 15in right) quads ...

Hi Senior Chief, Hmmm... I looked it up on Wiki (which is not the best, but gives a general idea) and does "Deutsche Werke Kiel" mean anything to you? I don't speak German to my great regret :stubborn: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_World_War_II_destroyers This gives the yard ...

Hi Paul, I was merely suggesting that the British ships anchor outside to prevent the French from leavingfor the few days it would take for the two governments to negotiate a compromise. PS: If Hood went after Strasbourg, Bismarck would be half the legend she is now due to the fact that (if) Strabou...
