Re: The future of Europe

. ......and since I can elect the MEP's it is a democracy just like any other national parliament. A new book is being published, which I invite you and other forum members to read. The title is ''Brussels laid bare'', the author is Marta Andreasen who was the chief accountant for the European Unio...

Re: Unluckiest Warship

The key to the loss of Scharnhorst is the separation from her destroyer force, upon which she should have returned to port. I suspect that if Bey had kept his destroyers with him and pressed on then Johanesson and his five destroyers would have been lost with the Scharnhorst. Of course, if Scharnho...

Re: A new "Sink the Bismarck!" movie?

Well, reads like a Hollywood movie. Good drama, but too much black and white. I'd rather have the Mers el Kebir scene seen with French eyes, to be honest, or the British be cold. I always hated the "I feel so bad doing this but I'll do it anyway" whiners. You do it, or you don't. Don't whi...

I think the German BB's did not accomplish less than the average BB in WW2.

I think it may start to drift in the first 20 seconds before really starting to turn. It doesn't really sound unreasonable.

Re: The future of Europe

If I trace back my family by about 10 generations I'm from all over Europe. Doesn't matter where I was born, it wasn't my decision anyway. What I care about is not having different this, different that everywhere I go, starts out with currency, includes technical compatibility and goes right into le...

Re: The future of Europe

Abandoning self determination of member countries and turning their parliaments into rubber stamps is exactly what the EU is about. It's long done. But somehow nations still refuse to see it and pay a lot of money for the powerless representatives in national parliaments. A total waste of resources...

Re: Cinco de mayo

Economy is a far better weapon than a million man. Less investment, more return. Size of economy may be a better weapon, what is important is how that economy is used - resource allocation and utilisation. A major example of the deficiences in that was Nazi Germany, one principle reason Hitler lost...

Re: The future of Europe

The EU is still better than having dozens of countries all doing their own BS. If I was to abandon something, I'd go for the national parliaments. That would allow the EU to leaned out a lot.

Re: Historical Naval actions that would make good movies?

That's like saying all Italians, Romanians or Finns eventually came over to the Allied side, except for those fighting on the German side. I though of ending the movie with the British attack, as it is the most shocking moment in the story and probably the best climax, but you're right in that it do...
