Re: Victorious and its involvement

... To reflect on some of your comments lwd, what does a report in US papers about battleship X sinking a Japanese ship have anything to do with the Bismarck. It rather clearly illustrates that newspapers especially during wartime are not particularly reliable sources. If the history of the Bismarc...

That's the general reaction to post based on questionable or factually challenged data especially those lacking any sort of reference.

Re: Washington

What's the matter with you people, why don't you bother reading some material for Christ's sake ? When you list large documents and don't tell what portions you think are significant it's called shotgun sourcing and doesn't rate high on my priorities as far as reading goes but lets take a look at t...

He also doesn't like it that if you run the statistics based on hits there is no statistically significant difference between the shooting of the two. I.e. the difference could c...

Re: Washington

But there is more to training than just "battle training is there not? How much such training did PoW get? Read the paper and comment less. What paper? Or maybe I should suggest you make more useful comments rather than repeating yourself. Consider this. For everyone who posts on a thread ther...

Re: Washington

... From AVKS-700, we know that Bismarck battle training lasted only 11 days. But there is more to training than just "battle training is there not? How much such training did PoW get? That's because there were many problems in Oct-Nov 1940 with the main battery, which brought the ship back to...

Re: Sinking of French Fleet

... I would like to point out that French guns could not, as far as I know, use British ammunitions (British 15" shells and French 380 mm were not of the same caliber). I guess it would take time to build ammunitions for French ships or rearm them with British guns.... Well the US did end up p...

Re: Victorious and it involvement

... how can you explain the report from radio London and a Swedish newspaper that the Victorious successfully achieved a hit on Bismarck during the night of 26Th/27Th?? .... How can you explain the report in US papers that "Battleship X" sunk a Japanese battleship off Gadualcanal? Or simi...

Re: Victorious and its involvement

... It is the British that have covered up what really happened and have left out one ships involvement in the final battle. Or not. All the German survivors stated they scuttled the ship, Really? All of them did? People have dived on the wreck numerous times and found no evidence of the ships hull...

Re: Washington

Neither PoW nor Bismarck scored any hits in the two subsequent engagements, although PoW may have straddled Bismarck at over 30,000 yds. It's irrelevant; during the first battle, Bismarck, as a fighting unit, performed better than PoW, allthough under constant fire. Bismarck also made several cours...

READ THE F****** REFERENCES.
If you think they counter either the facts or the logic I presented then why don't you post where your think I went wrong. A post such as the above is without value.

Re: H class Battleships

As for the results. I would expect both sides to have at least one heavily damaged battleship. The looser is likely to have at least 3 heavily damaged and the winner one or two with moderate damage to another one or two. I'd give the allies an edge although the Germans could pull an upset in the fir...

Re: H class Battleships

The British are alsmost sure to have at least on CV in the area more likely a couple. If the US is involved I would expect at least a pair of fast battleships with some of the older battleships on convoy duty. Likewise I would expect the US to have a CV or two involved and likely a handfull of Briti...

Re: Washington

Gentlemen, Forgive me for intruding on this discussion, but when Bismarck was cornered and unable to steer with her company in a fairly demoralised state, did she not make some pretty impressive shooting against Rodney (who was able to manouver) before the combined weight of shells destoyed her off...
